What to say about Bali - it isn't easy as I never put a toe outside my hotel, so it will probably be unfair, but I have to say I don't think I would come here again. Well, not to this bit of Seminyak anyway....
What I was hoping for was some quiet tropical paradise to chill out in for 4 days and I didn't really feel like I got it. The hotel was nice, don't get me wrong, but the location was awful - it was right on the main drag, which was noisy, dirty & smelly and quite obviously operated along the lines of a cheap package holiday type resort, which was not what I was looking for. 20 years ago maybe....
Also, the weather didn't help - arrival day was good, second day a bit cloudy but okay. Day 3 was sunshine and showers, though more showers than sunshine and the last day was one of those typical british days where the sky just keeps dripping all day - not really raining enough to be inconvenient, but enough to be annoying. So I didn't actually get in the pool more than twice, very little in the way of sunbathing and I guess I just feel I didn't really get a good chance to just exhale and relax.
It sounds like I had a terrible time - I didn't. I slept in, I mooched about, I read my book, eat some great food and had a pedicure, so I actually had an enjoyable 4 days, it just didn't quite live up to my expectations. Never mind, onward and upwards!!
Bangkok next and I'm seriously hoping this will be more in line with my expectations, but I'm not holding my breath. On the plus side, I have tours booked for all 3 days that I am in Bangkok, so I should be busy. First tour is the Bridge on the River Kwai tour, which is an all day tour with an early start, which I am not particularly looking forward to, but, I guess it's a bit of a trek from the hotel and it's the tour I most wanted to do, so I'm not going to complain about it. Hoping the new camera will give me some better pictures!!
