So, flight to Bali was fine & transfer was okay. It's very humid here, but actually I seem to be fairly acclimatised after SA and Singapore, so not really roasting the way I thought I would - still being careful though, burning is not fun!
Got given a garland of flowers on arrival, which was nice, but they started to make my neck itch after about 5 mins, so had to take it off - thankfully the transfer guy gave me a "refreshing towel", so used that to wipe all the pollen off my neck and finally stop the itching. Going to make a point of avoiding that particular flower!!
Not particularly impressed with the resort that my hotel is in - for all you Europeans, imagine a typical cheap package holiday to Greece, but more humid and more scooters and you've pretty much got the measure of the bit of Seminyak I am in. The hotel however, is nice, but a bit schizophrenic - it seems an upmarket hotel & spa, the room is lovely, the bed great, nice bathroom, proper aircon, lovely pair of pools, swim up bar and the mod cons of a decent star hotel, but it's absolutely chock full of chavvy australians - I've never seen so many shaven headed (with a few mohicans thrown in for variety), beer bellied, tattooed (and that's just the women) aussies in my life and all the staff behave like it's some Club 18-30 hotel! It's weird, like it can't decide whether to be upmarket or mass market!!
Anyway, had to wait until 3pm to get into my room, and so I killed 3 hours, by curling up on a poolside double lounger - one of those wicker bed seat things that hold two people - with my book for a couple of hours. Finally got my room and a quick guide of the hotel and facilities from one of the tour staff, then went and sat by the quieter pool - the swim bar area has regular "join in activities" - for a bit.
Dinner in the hotel restuarant was good, they had this Peking Duck thing which was dry, but good. Unfortunately the restaurant opens out on the main drag for our bit of Seminyak, so all the tourists & scooters etc are walking/whizzing by while you're trying to eat. Definitely getting too old for that sort of holiday!
Had a huge thunderstorm hit us about 10pm last night, masses of thunder & lightning and terrific wind - I thought at first someone had a hose on my room door it was so loud! Had a couple of power flickers, but fortunately they didn't last.
Just made it in time for breakfast this morning, though really didn't want to get up. Ambled over to the Spa around 11ish and got a pedicure, which was really lovely - nice fruity leg & foot massage to go with it. May go back tomorrow and get a facial!!
Tried out my new camera and I think I've got the measure of it, just have to try & not drop it like I did the last one! Now I just have to work out how to get the pictures off the camera and into my laptop!
Probably won't do another Bali entry, as I have to pay for the internet here (and it's a bit tempremental) and as I pretty much plan to lay by the pool and do nothing much for the next couple of days, I don't think there will be much to write about.
