Last night we stayed in Geraldton which is 500 kilometres north of Perth. Our suite was painted brick a bit cell block h and the kitchen had mice!
Today we visited the museum which gave the history of Dutch ships being wrecked on the reefs offshore and the sinking ofHMAS Sydney during the Second World War. She was the pride of the Australian fleet and all hands were lost. The German boat was also sunk but some of her crew survived.
We then drove north to Monkey Mia which is where we are staying. North of Geraldton is very remote and as we went inland the temperatures rose reaching 47 degrees in the shade. Strangely the wind was strong so it felt like being in a hot air dryer.
Monkey Mia is a small camp resort in the middle of Shark Bay with beautiful beaches and lagoons all around. We have an Emu for company who wanders around coming on our veranda. We can see the beach from our beds which is 20 yards away, we did spare a thought for you all in the January cold at home.
