Rotterdam to Geneva: Completed.
Today was our last day as we made the short trip into Geneva.
We tried to stay close to the shoreline of Lake Geneva. Initially, this was not possible because the coast was divided up into private strips, each with a posh-looking residence hidden behind high trees and hedges. Each residence had its own strip of private beach together with its own moorings.
After this des. res. stretch, we came to a beautiful sandy beach. Today there was a competition going on on the beach. It was a cross between netball and rugby but played with a frisbee. There appeared to be 10 players per side. Mixed males and females. We ordered a coffees and sugared pancakes at a beach bar and settled back, under a hot sun, to watch. At first they were just practicing their frisbeeing skills. Then the teams were called to order and the games started, two games were played simultaneously. It was a fast and frantic game , played with a back drop of loud music. Entertaining.
A few miles along the road we chanced upon a picturesque little port called Yvoire. Coach parties were arriving just as we moved on.
Approaching the Swiss border, we were hoping to find ourselves a plat du jour whilst still in France. (Lunch, or anything else ordered in Switzerland, involves a sharp kick to one's wallet.)
Just as we neared the border, I noticed a cul-de-sac off to the right: it said. 'Port'. We took a chance and went down the steep road. It led down to a small restaurant on a quayside. We were given a table and ordered some food. Just then a boat docked and a fifty strong wedding party, complete with a 6 or 7 month pregnant bride disembarked. We enjoyed our meal in the midst if the reception. I guess the wedding was in Geneva then all aboard the boat to this place.
Moving on, we entered Geneva. A spectacular place to end any tour. Within minutes TWO Lamborghinis drove by. Ferraris, Porsches and other auto-exotica are the order if the day, in this, the 3rd or 4th most expensive city in the world.
In Switzerland, we've seen vending machines that dispense fondu, complete with fresh bread.
Tomorrow we will rest up a bit and have a look around the city...
