Nice
Today we leave Riomaggiore and make our way to Nice. Devouring yet another delicious, free breakfast, we made our way to the train station after checking out.
We start the first leg as part of our 'Loops pass', which covers our transport around Western Europe. We made our way to the drop off point in 'Le Spezia' and found our fellow commuters.
We had to wait around the station for a while because the bus was running late. The bus drive from Le Spezia to Nice was beautiful. Passing through the mountainous ranges of Italy was great but once we hit France, wow look out!
Driving along the French Riviera is amazing. The coastline is beautiful! We passed Monaco, eze and eventually ended up near our accommodation in nice.
We both took a trek through the city to find a place for dinner. Along our stroll we passed busketiers, break dancers and many nice-ians displaying their talents.
We found a restaurant called Le blah blah Felix, :p can't remember it. Took a walk around the rest of town and had a look at the beach.
Nice - day 2
A very shaky start today, Ross woke up at 6:30ish with suspected food poisoning again and both of us were struggling with our cough! With the amount of medication we are taking we should be getting bloody better, not worse. I guess you have to just keep trying to flush it out. We are staying in a 6 bed dorm and it's hot here even at night so needless to say the air con is pumping all night. The Greek doctor we visited advised we switch it off over night, but being out numbered I don't think we had a chance.
We went out for breaky and Ross now being very cautious with what he eats, poor bloke, decided to give it a miss, I grabbed a cappuccino and omlette.
We then visited the information center at the train station 'Gare - Nicé- Ville', grabbed a map, bought a rail and bus pass and started making our way to 'Eze' from the Gare Thiers tram stop. We got off at Vauban and caught bus 82 which takes us all the way to 'Eze', had a browse up the mountain at an old castle, took a couple shots of the 'Fragonard' perfumery, obviously not very interesting to us so we carried on trekking. Not feeling the best we decided to take the slow slow walk down the trail leading to eze village, Recommended by our busabout tour guide. Yuk, haha after being in cinque Terre maybe our expectations were too high but we got to the end, tired and sweaty and unimpressed :p it's a bit of a flat day, we really aren't feeling the best and we could have done without it!!
From eze village we made our way to the train station and headed over to the country of Monaco!
As soon as you step into Monaco you can instantly see how much bloody money is floating around here, thousands and thousands of boats, well maintain public areas, good looking buildings with expensive finishings, the big named stores of the fashion industry everywhere, way too may luxury cars - I've never seen so many, Mercedes, BMW, hummers, land rovers, Porsche, Lamborghini, Maserati, Audi, rolls Royce, well I could go on but you get the point.
We took a walk to the casino, it wasn't as great as I had thought it would be, but the finishings inside the building were amazing! No cameras obviously but lucky I have my iPhone :p
We then made our way back, we were exhausted and in need of a wholesome feed.
On the menu for dinner was fettuccini, asparagus, bacon (purcuitto, too expensive for us) and mushrooms with a crème fraîche and Dijon mustard sauce. Excuse all the spelling. We sat down outside our room and enjoyed with a glass of juice desperately trying to get anything of nutritional value into us :p we were stuffed and went to bed 9:30!
Day 3
Started with a good breaky, scrambled eggs, bacon and mushrooms!! yum!
Feeling better but not tops yet. We had a slow start packing our bags so that we'd be ready to check out the next morning. We had a st Tropez cruise booked, tour went from 1-11pm. Spent a few hours in port granaurd 'little Venice' as it's known, looking through the markets and the many gelato stores! Ice cream here is too bloody good to resist! The kilos are coming on quickly due to this :p!
We then relaxed on the st Tropez beach for a couple hours before returning to the bus and jumping onto the cruise. It was open bar on board and being cautious we had a couple drinks but didn't over do it, still trying to shake this cough. Everyone got pretty merry on board and once we started talking to a few people we forgot to listen to the captain pointing out who owns what boat and which house. I think all I remember seeing/hearing about was Elton johns house and the bloke who owns Swiss watches or something.
We were dropped off to have dinner and a couple drinks back on land for a few hours. Still can’t believe how many big boats they have floating around here.
Back on the boat for a short transfer then to the bus for a 2 hour journey home. Feeling very very tired we hit the hay ASAP as we had to be ready for our bus to Barcelona at 8am.
