Well, after all the excitement of Pikes Peak and long hours of driving over the past couple of days, today was a lot more leisurely. We had about 230 miles to do and no particular stops planned along the way. We got up later than usual and headed down to breakfast, today we both decided on pancakes, and checked out about 11. We're safely back at the hotel in Albuquerque. The weather was horrible all the way home. No thunder and lightning but grey and miserable. Rain all the way and quite heavy in places. However, better that the weather be bad today while we we're driving on the interstate than tomorrow when we're back on the old road. Time for tea at the hotel restaurant and bed ready for our journey from Albuquerque to Holbrook tomorrow.

As we have 3 nights at our stop in Albuquerque we have decided to go a bit off piste from Route 66. Bonus points to anyone who can figure out what we're going to do tomorrow. We decided as we were in America and we may not get the chance to do this again, that we would drive about 400 miles north of Albuquerque into Colorado. Once we had finished our pizza we started the 70 or so miles left to our hotel for the night. New Mexico is so different to Texas. Texas is very flat and bare and New Mexico has beautiful mountains everywhere you look. On our journey from Santa Fe to tonight's hotel, we saw some amazing roads, mountains and views. The sunset over the mountains was just beautiful. We are now safely at our 6th hotel and feeling fat from all the pizza.
