G'day,
So yesterday was my last day in Melbourne, and i caught my flight to Perth in the evening. the whole process was quite annoying, as Lee and I were catching our flight from differnt terminals, but only a couple of hours apart so we went to the airport together. i queued up to check forover 40 minutes, only to be told it was too early for me to check in, so i had to come back an hour later and queue for another 45 mintues to check in, then my flight was delayed, and there were really strong winds on the flight so it took us longer to get there. i ended up arriving in my hostel at 6am eastern time, without any sleep a tired bunny. Lee got his flight to Sydney, and he flies out to NZ tomorrow. It is very strange being on my own again, after two months travelling wtih lee, but any worries i had about making new friends again were dashed about an hour after lee and i said our goodbyes, when i got talking to an australian girl (originally from Iran) in the airport (or rather she got talking to me), we then spent the next few hours chatting away about travelling, politics, and religion of course. Then when the flight landed (more than two hours late) and at 3am western time, the airport shuttle that was supposed to pick up me up wasnt there, and just as i was about to get worried that i was goign to be stranded on my own at 3am i got talking to a guy who was also supposed to be getting the shuttle, and he gave me lots of great advice about Perth, although i was so tired i think i have forgotten most of it now (he told me i just had to watch the sunset from somewhere in Perth, although i cant remember where now!) , and we got the shuttle together. I am sleeping in a room with three other irish guys, who all seem really nice and didnt seem to mind me putting my sheets on the squeekiest bed in the world at stupid o'clock this morning. My hostel is one of the most original i have stayed in so far, it is an old army barracks, with a beautiful (by assie standards) brick front, and the inside is dated and feels like somewhere you would stay on a geography school trip, musty with wooden panelling, its kind of reassuring.
So today i made myself get out of bed and have just walked around town, went to the tourist information to try and plan the rest of my stay in perth. It is warmer here than Melbourne, but it seems to rain a lot. I leave perth on the 16th, when i will be heading up to Darwin, and i need to do some planning now about how i am going to get to Uluru and then get away again.
I have gone back in time by two hours now, so i am only 7 hours ahead of the UK now. Am probably going to go and catch up on some sleep now. Speak soon xxxxx
