Hey everyone, thought a blog entry was long overdue! Since our last entry we spent some boring days in Oaxaca, followed by some really fun ones in Mexico City, which we much preferred second time round! We stayed at a really cheap hotel, right in the shopping district, as it was cheaper than the hostel we stayed at before. We went to the anthropology museum which is amazing but just takes so long to go around. We also went to the big park, but we really felt exhausted because of the high altitude. We then caught our flight to LA where we stayed at Backpacker's Paradise (in Inglewood!).
The hostel was really nice and picked us up for free at the airport and gave loads of free shuttles around while we were there. We went to Santa Monica to do some camera shopping, where we got our new sony camera! We then went down to the pier and muscle beach for a workout and hung out there for the afternoon. The next day we went to Hollywood, which was interesting, but not much to do except go on overpriced tours. We resisted the temptation, and hopped aboard a local bus into Beverley Hills and Rodeo Drive! We loved it there, and it's a completely different world to Guatemala City! After doing the touristy bits it was time for our flight up to San Francisco, which was cheaper than getting the bus. We stayed with Annemarie and family for a few nights, where we had a really nice time chilling out in Redwood City and going to the beach at Half Moon Bay. Since then we've been staying at a really cool hostel called the Green Tortoise in San Francisco. Both of us have had a cold in quick succession, so haven't been up to much, but feel loads better now. We've enjoyed wandering around the city and the hills to get a workout. We've been for a huge walk down to Golden Gate Park which is a fun place, and have done all the touristy bits round pier 39 and the seen the sea lions. The shops here are fun and christmassy at the moment which is cool, like Bloomingdales, Barney's and Macey's.
However, because of costs here, we've changed our flights so that we're going to fly to Fiji on the 15th December and go to Auckland on the 21st. We think we were a tad ambitious with our budget for 10 months, so we are going to do everything we want and basically last as long as we can instead of just paying for food and accommodation! So looks like we'll see you all for Christmas then! Only joking, but after seeing how easy it is to change flights now, we're not as fussed about sticking rigidly to our initial deadline.
There's a few more places we want to see around San Francisco, and then we are probably going to get a car for a week, head to Yosemite for a few days then head down the coast road to LA. Speak soon.x
