We'd received a few strange looks when telling people we planned on visiting Canberra, but felt it only right to take a trip to the capital city. We were greeted by the rain, which we had hoped to leave behind in Sydney, and this persisted until the following morning. Fortunately, we were impressed with our hostel, despite the large number of odd looking old men who were also residents.
On the first morning, we ventured out into the bitter cold for a look at what Canberra had to offer. We soon realised that this wasn't very much, having walked for ages against the wind without seeing anything of note. We finally found our way up to Capital Hill where we explored the Parliament Building and were able to get a good view of the city from the roof.
Not wanting to exhaust all the tourist sights in the first day, we spent a relaxing afternoon back at the hostel where we made our way through the extensive DVD collection.
The sun came out the following day, allowing us to enjoy a few more of Canberra's offerings, which included the Australian Art Gallery, the Old Parliament Building and Lake Burley-Griffin. The lake is undoubtedly the best feature in what is a fairly dull and inactive city.
Our only chance for excitement would've been the Man United V Barcelona game, but unfortunately we'd boarded the overnight bus to Melbourne a few hours before the kick off. On the plus side, I'm now up-to-date with the Bourne films.
