Conichiwa! Okay I promise not to do the cheesy language based comedy salutation in future posts as it could get seriously grating, for now though in my bleary eyed state it will have to suffice. We are finally in Tokyo and I am writing this post from a cosy little wooden box (no don't worry I haven't died yet) this is the Japanese take on bunk beds, like lockers but for people! After an 11 hour flight where we tried to sneakily and unsuccessfully trick our little bodies into believing the afternoon was actually sleep time we arrived at Tokyo Narita airport with very sore bottoms and very tired eyes. The 9am sun glared very hard in an attempt to persuade us that it wasn't in fact 1 o'clock in the morning but myself and Tom were having none of it. Despite these protestations we managed to navigate the JR train system and got ourselves onto the hour long train into Tokyo itself.
I spent the hour happily staring out the window of this very swish train and childishly being excited by the Japanese language shop signs and also surprised by the existence of a ToysRUs and if that wasn't enough a BabysRus too! Reminded me of being back at the old beehive centre, what a treat! After a little bit of aimless wandering at Tokyo train station we got ourselves to the hostel and dropped our bags before heading out again to get our bearings and have a look round Akihabara the electrical city which was in theory only 10 minutes walk away. Of course this turned out not to be the case (not when we've got hold of the map anyway!) and we went round in circles for at least an hour until we stumbled upon it. By this time we were a bit too tired to really appreciate it an I was never really into gaming and geekery anyway so after we mooched round a few stores and tried to take surreptitious photos of the dressed up girls we headed back to the hostel. This time making the much more sensible decision of taking the train and therefore speeding up the process massively. So here I am lying in my box writing this on my iPod touch whilst Tommy snoozes in the box above. Apologies is this is a little too long and rambling, I hope my blogging skills shall improve as we go although I must admit I have always been guilty of waffling.. Tomorrow we hope to have a proper plan of sightseeing after we've consulted the guidebook and I can also regale you with tales of Japanese toilets, if that doesn't bring you back for more I don't know what will!
