Rome in a day. Well with Emma having to fly out from Rome late Wed arvo and Wes advising that it wasn't worth a whole weekend I decided to go with Emma and do a day trip to see the sights. It was pretty impressive but by the end of it I was sort of thinking just some more old s***. The colosseum was an awesome site and amazing to see such construction from so long ago. Walked around some other old things, took some Barks style photos and some self pose shots for you Luke. Went to see the Vatican city so I suppose I can say Ive been to another country now as well. That makes - 10 so far. Hmm now they are good numbers. After the Vatican we went to the Spanish steps for some people watching. I did some window shopping whilst Emma sat on the steps to see what was happening. The steps are like this famous hang out where everybody goes there. There were couples making out, lots of tourists taking photos, people like us just sitting there and this dodgy guy who we are sure is a pick pocket doing some really suss things. Emma had been watching him for awhile but once I was there we were both mesmerised as he checked out people and moved around looking very suspicious. We were sure we would see him make a move and there were a few close ones but in the end it was like leaving a movie before the end, but we just had to go. At this point I said good bye to Emma as she went to catch her flight. I headed for the Trevi fountain which is another very popular spot. It was packed with well over a thousand people there for sure. I took a few pics, had some gelati and decided it was time to head back home. I got a train ticket and the next one left in about 2 mins. I asked what platform and got directed to plat 15 which was a good 750 meters away. When I go there it had no train so I asked again and got told platform 13. by this time it was cutting things close so I hopped what I had just been told in Italian was actually the right train. It was just about to leave as I hit the platform and I had a good 100 meter run to get to the train. I got there just in time but of course in full sprint I did not actually read what train it was and just jumped on. So for a good 30mins I was not really sure I was on the right train. Seemed to be going it he right direction but none of the towns were on my map so I was getting worried. Turned out to be right so all was good. At the other end though things got interesting. There was a bus going to the center of town but I needed a bus to Lenola. I remembered that the Lenola bus went to the station so I did not get on the town bus. Turned out the Lenola bus didn't come to that station and the next town bus was an hour away. So I walked to town and got some directions to the stop for the Lenola bus. Turned out that the next bus was 9pm which was the last one. It was 7:45 so I had a bit of a wait. It did come but up here in Lenola the hotel is at the bottom of town. I didn't know where the stop was but when I saw I was close I got up and asked for the bus to Stop. Some Italian Ladies told me "no no, Lenola not yet" So I was sort of put back in my seat thinking maybe it only stops in town. That's a good km or so up the hill. When we got there she said to me "Lenola Cetral" and I said me Appochi hotel. At which point she realised why I wanted to get off there. No body spoke English but she signalled for me to stay on the bus and get dropped off on its way back down. Beat the hell out of the walk so I went with that. Got to the accom about 10 and luckily im in Italy so that a normal dinner time. Dinner is a 4 course meal and all you can drink wine so I had me a bottle or 2 and filled up on some fantastic Italian food and them of course Gilato just for good measure. What a day. Got out for a 4hr ride today and saw some more of the area. Really quite different to anywhere Ive ever been so im loving it Amazingly simple buildings all with their own charm. Its great. Heading tomorrow arvo for Naples and then onto Sorrento for a night to do some partying. And I rekon some sun backing by the beach so it will be pretty good. Back here on Sunday for some riding and more big meals.
