Adelaide- Melbourne
We met up with my mum in Singapore airport, after a day in the city. It was really good to see her after so long, I was very excited. After our flights to Adelaide and getting to our really nice accommodation in a very nice part of Adelaide we all had a little nap. I opened all my birthday presents from everyone (Thank you) and then went on a tiny tour of the city, museums etc and looked for an imaginary restaurant my mum ate in last year lol! Okay mum it’s out there somewhere. We had a really nice dinner and a bottle of wine back at the apartment.
We went to the beach on the 2nd and 3rd day, which was really nice and also very hot. We stopped for a glass of wine on the way home because someone surprise surprise needed the toilet and wouldn’t use the bars toilet unless we bought something!!! We went out for dinner again, courtesy of Rogers mum and dad. Roger had kangaroo, aahhh poor Skippy! Mum and I stuck to steak which was delicious.
We picked up our Spaceship (Campervan) the next day and headed off to the McClaren Vale. I had to drive as Rog’s driving license conveniently had expired! Mum and Rog enjoyed lots of free wine tasting, whilst I drove us around the vineyards. It was really beautiful around there, and also smelt really good. We stopped in Murray Bridge where we slept for the night, in probably the skankiest Caravan site. Rog and I don’t know how we would’ve coped without Mum cooking for us.
We did a lot of driving through, with an array of gigantic sized objects greeted us as we drove through each town, one of which a giant lobster- kind of spooky. We stopped in a nice camp site for the evening, eventually after Mum and I were unable to find Rog at our pitch, we thought this was funny, Rog just though we were stupid!! We drove the next day to the Umpherston sink hole, which had been made into a really beautiful garden. The blue lake was also good, and thankfully still blue. From SA we drove to Victoria.
Portland and Cape Nelson were our next port of call, where we drove to Discovery bay which was the longest beach I’d ever seen. It was really really nice, although the sea was cold, but very impressive. An evening spent in port fairy with lots of wine and cards, before we began our journey to The Great Ocean Road.
This was a day of stopping off every 5 minutes as we drove along The Great Ocean Road. We saw some really amazing sights, beautiful bays, and extraordinary rock formations. It was incredible, the Lorch Ard Gorge was my favourite, and Rog preferred The Twelve Apostles (although only 6 remain).
We drove all the way to Lorne where we spent the evening, and had lots more wine and yum roast chicken! Cooking in our campervan proved harder than expected, especially with 3 of us in the van, luckily we stayed in a campsite every night though.
The next day we went to Erskine falls which was a really muddy walk to get to the bottom, but well worth it and Teddy’s lookout, where we got an amazing view out to sea.
Onto the Princes Hwy, we drove to Geelong and Tourquay where we visited the beach and stayed for the night. Mum kept shouting out Cole’s every time she saw the supermarket, which scared the hell out of Rog and I. This resulted into us playing the “Coles” game- think you have to be there. This meant all Rog and mum did was look for Coles when ever we entered a town, brilliant, thanks for the directions guys. They clearly both kept cheating, and Mum would just shout it out when ever. We eventually had to apply rules!!
We drove to Melbourne where we stayed for 2 nights. It was a really nice clean city. We did the city walk which took us through all the areas of the city, through China town along the river and through many markets- it was really nice. We did a bit of shopping and had a really nice lunch down one of the many alleys. We also had some really good chocolate, so nice to have after such a long time.
The next day we drove to the Neighbours set, I thought it was really funny, and quite embarrassing. We just drove around the street stopping at each house to take a picture; we must’ve looked like right weirdoes.
