This is day three in Melbourne and I am having a ball. Jason and Vanessa have been the coolest tour guides and cheese and pickle sandwich makers. But I jump ahead a bit.
I had to get up at sparrow's fart to catch my flight from Canberra to Melbourne. A 6am Red Eye was part of the cheap deal. But it is really quick to drive across Canberra at that time. At the airport a lot of the passengers were there before the check in staff. Note for next time, the counter does not open until 30 mins before the flight so no real need to get up so early. So I sat around reading some more of Richard Hammond's book "Adventures with Evel, Oliver and the Vice President of Botswana….As You Do". It's about the year or so back with Top Gear after the dreaded accident in the Rocket Car that nearly killed him. I have finished the chapters about his sled dog trip to the north pole and am busying myself with the drive across Botswana in Oliver. Sorry I digress, back to Melbourne.
The flight was 47 mins after the 15 min delay with the baggage conveyor belt at Canberra. Beautiful big new airport, but apparently the baggage conveyor is powered by a family of exhausted hamsters running a treadmill. Therefore requiring regular breaks to remove the dead and breed up another hamster to further fuel the evils of travel. But I did reach Melbourne and had a nice morning strolling around the city watching nothing open and no one go anywhere as it was Sunday morning.
At midday I caught up with Jason and went back to his flat in Kew to have lunch with him and Vanessa. Their flat is great, on the end of the terrace with a pre school each side of the block so they have no neighbours outside school hours and can make as much noise as they like. There is a court yard around two sides and vaulted ceiling upstairs. Vanessa also made a great Thai curry so lunch was delicious. Cool photos of the trip to Thailand as well, guys.

Bob Hi Rod I heard the baggage conveyor was powered by the new federal (hung) parliament. You know, one step forward and two back. It's a wonder your baggage got to the plane at all!
