According to the lonely planet guide, years ago american soldiers decended on this once sleepy fishing town in search of a good time. Little did they know that with their high spending on ladies in the area they would transform the place into a crazy mix of prostitiutes and booze. Seeing is believing when it comes to this place, we lost count of how many times we spotted western men with Thai women. And there wasnt any normal bars, they were all crawling with women in search of a wealthy westerner! As we young poor looking travellers we didnt get that much attention, although the shemales seemed to be digging our vibe! dont worry we rejected all advances. Our two day stay was spent checking out the cheap clothes and the Walking Street bars. We enjoyed the Thai boxing etc but we didnt want to stay in this place too long.
