World Trip 2005-06
Ko Phangan vibe!
Arrived on the 15th after an overnight stay. We stayed at the Sea Gate Resort which was about 20 mins away from the beach party! We couldnt get closer because it was all fully booked. The Sea Gate Resort proved to be legendary however! not becuase there were tons of young people there and that there was tons of things to do, because there wasnt! it was pretty quiet infact! It was the receptionist that made the stay what it was! a long haired indian man. He didnt speak great english but he was always prepared to conversate and willing to help us out with our travelling needs. Infact he proved a bit too willing! he was always there, hanging round the resort, wherever we were he was! amazing man! such a great employee! whenever i even thought of food, he was there with a menu, if Brides fancied checking his emails, he was there, peering over to see if he could be of any assistance, he took interest in Brides favourite band Shed Seven and even stayed in the reception balcony to ward off any potiential burgler on the night of the full moon party.
That day we decided to explore the island via bike! We initially set off to check the Hat Rin vibe, which is the home of the Full Moon party. We arrived but couldnt find the right beach, so we just watched the Simpsons then set off back, just incase the receptionist missed us too much. On the way back we stopped off to play football with the locals, Brides kicked the ball, tripped over and everyone laughed. We quickly moved on, stopping for a drink at the local bar on the way.
Sure enough back at the resort that night the receptionist (sorry i did get his name but i quckly forgot, hard to pronounce) prepared us a meal then we went to sleep in preperation for the party of our lives!!!
16th Nov the Full Moon Party.
'Today we chill, when night falls we party'
Night fell, we decended onto the beach expecting a party vibe like no-other. considng every traveller we had spoke to was attending the event we expected something big, and it was!! 15,000 people partying all night on the beach from 6pm to around 10am. We pulled of every dancemove in the book during those hours! I met a Danish girl (6/10) and me and Brides were inevitably parted. We sensibly stuck to our pre-arranged plan to meet up every hour on the hour at the 7 Eleven. It was here where i would discover Brides for the final time at 9am trying to recruit the two irish guys he'd met back to the after party, he failed and we headed home.
We arrived back at the Sea Gate Resort via taxi, again the receptionist was there, laughing at how awfull we looked after spending the night dancing. I slept in the reception area while Brides, who refused to accept defeat, decided to go alone and find the after party! Along with a coconut and a stray dog for company he walked and even swam a little untill he eventually found the afterparty locaton! There was nothing there however, a ghost town were his words! So he got back in another taxi and headed back, amazingly however another guy in the taxi said 'i take it u have just been to the afterparty?' before Brides had time to look around and stop the taxi it was too late! So basically he had walked and swam all that way to the wrong part of town. what a guy!
That day was spent chilling on the beach. The next day we decided to leave the Sea Gate Resort. After an emotional farewell we decided to go back to Had Rin and spend the night there. Amazingly we found it in us to dance again and stay up to the early hours. That night i met a lovely Thai girl named Lung. She was awesome to talk to and even enjoyed my singing skills. Unfortunatly for her i wasnt going to be the rich westerner offering her an escape off the island and we said our goodbyes.
That morning we woke and took a boat to Ko Samui, it was raining bad and i felt so sick but we made it, to yet another paradise island!
