Hi All...Robyn here, my first blog for the trip so far!! We've arrived in Milwaukee and have a few minutes until we need to leave for tonight's baseball game - Milwaukee Brewers vs Pittsburgh Pirates - so thought I would take the opportunity to clear up the "dead animal smell" saga that Lib mentioned in earlier blogs. We set off from Saint Paul this morning with two goals, firstly to arrive safely in Milwaukee and second (and nearly as important as you could imagine after 7 days of travelling long distances) to GET RID OF THE SMELL that was slowly eating its way into our minds and driving us insane!! We drove a few hours and then pulled off the Interstate into a little town called Northfield, Wisconsin, a one horse town that ended up being home to our hero, Jim Hallis of Hallis Auto Repair! We told him our tale and he walked out into the rain, popped open the washer bottle, nearly got bowled off his feet by the pungent odour and said "There's a dead animal in there!! Let me get my pinch noses and I'll fetch the critter out" So off he goes only to return with his trusty pliers, dips them into the water bottle, holds his breathe against the almighty stench and pulls out a drowned grey and white mouse!! He disappears around the back of his workshop for about 5 minutes (perhaps to give the little critter a decent burial??) then comes back to the car and removes the whole container from its housing, rinses it out, refits and refills it then tests it but still nothing but residue stench was coming out the squirters. So...back into the workshop to get his tank of compressed air to "blow out" the hoses then re-test to a much better result!! We asked him how much we owed him for his troubles and he says "That'll be $30..." We gave our hero $50 which was probably a lot less than he deserved for having to put himself through the misery of smelling a decomposing rodent in our humble little rental car. Anyway, Murphy's law prevails and we have not had to use the washer all day today as it has been raining!! Stay tuned for more exciting adventures and remember...HALLIS AUTO REPAIR W 15689 Hwy 121, Northfield WI 54635 (Phone 715-984-2465) - For all your motoring needs!!!
