We departed Perth at 5pm off runway 21. A right turn and a beautiful overfly of Perth city - haven't seen Perth like this since my days flying from Jandakot. Unusual route taken instead of coastal over Geraldton and crossing the coast at Exmouth we flew inland and crossed at Port Hedland. Aircraft a B777 configuration 2-5-2. Joanne and I have the 2 on right side of aircraft - plenty of leg room - row 31 seats J & K. Peanuts and guava juice shortly after takeoff. FAs friendly. Dinner chicken & rice or fish and rice. We both had the chicken - spicy but nice; a cold chic pea salad, cracker biscuits and cheese, cake and drinks - a mango ice cream to finish off with. It's been a very bumpy flight with the seat belt lights on for long periods.
8.15pm now passing over central Java and quite bumpy. Strangely the FAs don't seem too keen to enforce the "return to seats"
We have made up some time - a good tail wind - obviously why the more inland route was picked
