I have arrived in the paradise that is Fiji After the short 3 hour flight from Auckland I was met off the plane by my cousin Ashish who works at the airport. I truly felt like a VIP because he walked me straight pass the massive queues at passport control to the 'diplomatic passport' desk which is only designated for dignitaries from around the world. Like I said, i truly felt like royalty lol
Its not what you know hey?!?!?!
Having collected my suitcase and made it out to the arrivals hall I met Ashish's brother Shayam, his wife and son who took me to their house where I will be staying. It was so nice to be greeted by mums big sister and to see her again after about 9 years we all sat up till late telling stories about what we have all been doing since we last saw each other. After some bowls of Kava it was time to hit the hay.
On my second day here we went to Wailoaloa Beach, there were palm trees, hot sand & walking into the water was like walking into a bath!! it was devine. The last time I was on this beach was 19 years ago, I dont really remember much from back then so it was nice to be back there and just chillax
Tuesday 7th May
We went into Nadi town centre so I could buy some souvenirs and presents for peeps back home. Its a bustling town with loads of stores selling traditional Fijian fare, I was most impressed with a giant turtle shaped wooden Kava mixing bowl!! if I had space in my suitcase I would've definitely brought it back with me. After finishing shopping we went for pizza at 'Mamas Place' for lunch. We ordered a large pizza and boy was it large!! I'm sure it was twice the size of a large pizza we get back home and it tasted great! I can see why this place has been graded 4 out of 5 on Trip Advisor, the service was great, the pizza tasted great and the price was amazing!! I definitely recommend visiting this place tomorrow aunty and I are going to Suva, I'm looking forward to seeing more family & spending quality time with them because thats one of the main reasons why I'm here. Must admit though, I'm a little nervous about driving as I've never driven here before so fingers crossed.............
I'll write about the drive and escapades in Suva in my next entry so until then peeps.
Much love
Rob
