Hello again, fancy seeing you here. Well It’s March 3rd, my birthday this month (24th), so don’t forget my prezzies! Rumour has it, it’s a big one, I will be 30. . . . Could think of worst places to be. . . . !
Anyway, last day in Cairns, had an awesome time here. . . . Went to Cape Tribulation the other day for a few day and on the way there did a few things. . . First we stopped at a café and I managed to clear my head from the night before by having a well deserved bacon and egg roll, very nice too. We then headed off and crossed the Daintree River by taking a croc spotting cruise boat. . . . Didn’t see anything, other than a few scary logs (Criky, that was a big one!).
Next we did a nice walk through a rainforest around the Marrdja boardwalk and I showed a few people that you can lick a termites green ass. . . . (If you don’t know what I am talking about, you haven’t been reading my journal properly?!). We then headed up to Cape Tribulation and I was first to be dropped off at my residence for the evening, the Ferntree Rainforest Lodge and very nice it was too. . . . Very quiet and tranquil. I dumped my stuff in my cabin and headed off for a spot of lunch at the so called more busy place down the road called PK’s. Had a bite to eat and planned my route where I was gonna walk. . . . saw a few others from the bus, but didn’t really talk to them , as I was looking forward to venturing off on my own!
So, I headed off up the road (Dirt track) towards Cape Tribulation beach and walked it’s length. . . . There was probably 2 other people floating around. . . I then headed back up the beach and in to the rain forest up to the look out point. Back down the path and up and over the mount to the other beach (Myall). I also walked the length of this beach through the relatively shallow Mason’s Creek (watch out for the crocs!) and then headed again through some rainforest and found the local campsite. I then found the main road and went up to the Mason lodge and out the back there is a beautiful waterhole. I didn’t swim, but really wanted to!
I then headed back as I had been walking for about 3 – 4 hours and was feelin tired. . . . I got back to my lodge where 2 other people had moved in (Hello). . . . But didn’t feel like conversation and crashed out for an hours power snooze!
I woke up, wiped the drool from my face and headed up to the gorgeous resort pool and had a dip! Here I met 2 crazy chicks. . . . They were aussy sisters Tamzyn and Xanthe (pronounced Zanthy)! Anyway seemed to get on really well with them and had a good laugh. Got showered and changed and met them for a game of pool. . . Then they asked if I wanted to join them for a meal at the other resort (Coconut Beach Resort). Needless to say, I accepted as it beats eating alone! The resort was quite posh and the food was awesome, probably the nicest meal I have had for a while, Zucchini soup to start and then a gorgeous ‘melt in your mouth’ fillet steak, cooked to perfection. . .hmmmmm yum yum. . . . Plus obviously great conversation with the 2 girls. . . . Being a true gentleman, I paid for the meal and we headed off to PK’s for some late drinks. . . . . ! Had some more drinks and laughs, played a bit more pool, then the bar shut, Doh, midnight?!?! Whatever. . . . .
We headed back to the Ferntree Lodge, singing songs on the way, as you do?! And me and Xanthe decided to go for a swim. . . I love night swimming, it’s awesome. . . . ! So we chilled round the pool for a bit with all the creatures of the night, including bats and frogs and huge toads. . . Then crashed out for the night as we were all up early for the Paddle Trek kayaking adventure!
I woke up at stupid o clock again prior to my alarm, so decided to get up. . . . Met up with the girls and laughed again about the night before! Then we got picked up by crazy Stu, who was taking us kayaking. Really nice guy, just a little bit wired with a twitchy eye!
Got out on the sea with the kayaks and I was away, lovin it. . . . We paddled around Cape Trib bay and looked for sea creatures, turtles and the like, but I wasn’t holding much hope, due to it being the rainy season, the water wasn’t very clear. . . . I didn’t care though, as it was just great to be out on the water! We headed round Cape Trib point and round to Myall beach. It was high tide so when we got round to Mason’s Creek, the water was quite high and there were some cool waves coming in and going up the creek, so we did a bit of kayak surfing!
We pulled up on the beach and chilled for a bit before heading back. . . . . Also on the way out again I had to have a go at some more surfing and really caught an awesome wave, the only problem was that one of the Dutch guys (also on the trip) got in the way, so I clattered in to the side of him, I over turned over and got whacked on the back of my head by my kayak for the trouble. . . . Plus I lost my sunnies. . . Doh! It’s all good fun though. . . . Still smiling!
So, we got back to land and Stu cut open a few coconuts for us to drink and eat before we went back. . . . .
It was just after midday and I was being picked up around 1.30pm and so were the girls, so we decided to meet up again in Caines that night, as Tamzyn lives there (Xanthe is from Sydney - visiting). Sounds like a plan!
So we said our goodbyes and I was off again of the bus back to Cairns. We did a few stops on the way back also, a view point over the Cape and a very nice swimming opportunity at some place I can’t remember. . . . . It was quite cold but very refreshing, with a strong current as the river ran through! We chilled there for about 45 minutes, then on the way back to the bus, I got chatting to a very nice Swedish girl. . . . . She thought initially that I may have been Swedish (I know, my gorgeous good looks and striking blonde hair – hahaha). But anyway, what a nice girl, had a good chat about what we are both doing and she reminded me of a very good friend of mine, that Swedish flare!
Got back on the bus and headed up to the town of Port Douglas, we dropped one of the guys off and then stopped in the town for a bit. . . I and had an ice cream, with my new Swedish friend and again, got lost in conversation. . . . !
Off on the bus again, for the final stint back and I got chatting to a nice Danish girl talking all about diving and stuff, she had done lots of diving but recently had had some bad experiences with it. . . . Very interesting conversation. All this good fun, made the journey back quite quick and easy. . . . . !
So, got back to Bohemia for another night and checked in again and headed up to my room, which I was sharing with a 20 yr old German girl who proceeded to practice her English on me for about 30 mins. . . . . I was feeling tired after my long day and really didn’t need this! She eventually went off for some food and left me in peace, however, no rest for the wicked, as I had 2 aussy girls to meet!
I gave them a call and made the arrangements, got ready and headed out. . . . A nice 25 – 30 min walk in the evenings 30 degree heat, plus humidity got me to town and to Tamzyns place. . . . We had a few beers there and compared some of the comedy photos we had taken before heading out to a very nice Thai restaurant. The food was gorgeous, however I ate too much again!
We then met up with some of their girlie friends, one of which I failed to mention did me and enormous favour of picking up my iPod from the shop before it shut, as I wouldn’t be back in time. . . . !
We had a quick drink with them, as they were all tired and went home early (boring). We stayed out for longer and had some more drinks, but Tamzyn left us as she also got tired and had to be up earlyish for a boat trip out to the reef in the morning. Xanthe was also going on the trip, but she was in more of a holiday mode (Top girl), so we had some more drinks and a night walk down to the lagoon. . . . Seem to just chat and chat and got on really well. . . . !
I may meet them tonight also, as they are going to a concert and have invited me (if they can get another ticket). So that would be cool. I have also said that I will meet up with Xanthe in Sydney and Tamzyn may also be there for Paddy’s day. . . . Can’t wait for that. . . It’s gonna be awesome as there is an area of Sydney called the Rocks (I think) that is very Irish orientated, so getting down there for Paddy’s day, should be great fun?!
So, that’s me done again for a few days. . . . I am off tonight on a night Greyhound down to Airlie beach before heading off on my Maxi yacht (Spank Me) around the Whitsundays for 3 nights! So will probably speak to ya in a week or so. . .
Take it easy people. . . . Quick question before I go. . . . Any of you decided to go traveling yet? Go on, live your dream, works for losers! Ciao!
