Thursday 4th November
The Franz Josef Glacier! This was such a great day. We had to meet at 9 am at the Glacier meeting point to get all geared up.....hat, gloves, walking boots, cramp ons (spikes for the bottom), jacket, and waterproof pants. Once we were all dressed appropriately we had a 10 minute bus ride to the bottom of the glacier where we were then split into 4 groups of about 10 people. At the base of the glacier it was chilly but as you walked higher it got colder and colder, I looked like an Eskimo or as my tour guide said..a hobbit! In total we walked about 6 miles and it was one of the best things we have seen..along the walk there were small caves you could go through which were really cool and we had the chance to sample a bit of ice climbing where you have to pull yourselves up along an ice wall! We will try and upload pictures today for you all to see.
In the evening we all chilled and had hot showers to relax our muscles! A great day!
