Tuesday 28th September
We boarded our final overnight train at 7pm in order to board a private bus to the station. By the time the train left it was 10.30pm so we only had a few hours before lights out and off to bed.
Wednesday 29th September
We arrived in Hong Kong in the morning but as we had to go through immigration we didnt get to the hotel until lunch time so we got a quick shower and headed out for our final group lunch and to view the harbour from Kowloon. Then some of us took the star ferry over to see Hong Kong Island which reminded us of New York. We then headed back to Kowloon to view the 'symphony of lights' show which is a laser light show to music. Star street was not far away so we checked this out whilst we were there. It is like Aasia's hollywood walk of fame and so we did not know many names other than......Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan.lol. But still it was really good.
Our final group meal was not exactly in a posh restaurant...we were all dressed up only to be escorted to a backstreet market near Temple Street Market. To help you all picture this restaurant hear are a few pointers... it did not have doors instead plastic sheets acted as doors and walls! and why do you need napkins when you could use the bog roll provided on each table!lol. (We kid you not). But although the interior was lacking some what the food was very good...especially the steak in black pepper sauce! yum.
We had a few last drinks at the hotel before saying our final goodbyes to the group in the early hours of the morning...this was actually much sadder than we thought it would be :( but we were very grateful to of had a fab group.
Thursday 30th September
We had a bit of a lie in before packing our cases and checking out. It was just the two of us for the first time so we explored Kowloon and worked out the MTR subway (which is like the London tube system.... but better!) After lunch we headed over o the City Garden hotel on Hong Kong Island which is where we were staying with mum, dad and liam/leannes family. We got there in the afternoon and it was safe to say it was definatley a step up from where we were used to.... doormen, concierge to carry our bags and the comfiest double bed ever!
After having a stroll around we finally met mum, dad and liam at 8.30 pm. All were very jet lagged so we went for dinner in the hotel and for a good old starbucks before going to bed. It was really good to see some familiar faces :)
Friday 1st October
We all met in the lobby at 9am and went for breakfast we then got on the star ferry to Kowloon and then the MTR to the flower market, bird market and goldfish market. The bird market was one of the most bizzare thigs ever......thousands of birds in cages/flying around for you to buy as pets..... very weird but interesting at the same time :). We also explored ladies market and sportswear street before heading back to the hotel for an hour.
We went for dinner on Hong Kong Island to a Thai restaurant which was gorgeous and as it was a national holiday we went to see the firework display over the harbour.
