Hellooooo!!! Ok, so we´ve done Puno and Cusco now, and just got to Arequipa. Seen lots, and eaten plenty too. So....Puno, just by lake titicacca, and so we did a tour of the lake to see the floating islands (picture), and another island. Really soaked up some of the culture while we were on these islands, where traditions like the way you wear your hat still run strong. Got accosted by some kids to buy bracelets aswell. Hard to refuse when they´re so cute, and the bracelets are so cheap. The island was beautiful too, and the scenery was great as we walked around it. Following this, we went to see some burial chambers too. Though they weren´t many, they were still cool, and interesting when you learn of the postion of their doorways in relation to the rising sun, and their relation to reincarnation etc. Our stay was nice in Puno, with great accomodation, and we found a great dirt cheap chinese so stuffed ourselves on chicken fried rice and veggies. Also witnessed a cool (if you can say that) funeral too, where the parade came out of the cathedral and marched through to streets, with a band playing, and half the damn city marching behind the coffin. Reminded of the godfather when they´re in Corleone, Sicilly.
Following Puno, we headed to Cusco, and stopped at a huge inca temple on the way, dedicated to their god Wiracocha. Got to Cusco at night, and the city just looks amazing, the central square is lit up all cool, and we even saw the poshest McDonalds ever, set in stone archways. Our hostel was smack bang in the midle of Cusco, so the location was sweet, though the hostel was a bit of a dive. Spent a good 5 days exploring here, and although we didn´t get to go to Machu Picchu, we did get to see the Sacred Valley, and tonnes of other cool ruins too. The city is expensive tour wise, though there are plenty of cheap eats to make up for this. Also found a cool english place too, though when its full of english people, we wished we were back in a little mexican we found, where three peruvians came in and played some great music. Finishing Cusco, we headed to Arequipa on a crappy overnight bus, which got us in way too early to Arequipa (only reason this was an issue is that it kinda made us have to wake up the owners at 5;45 am to get into our hostel), Oh well. Time to explore Arequipa!!
