Hi and greetings from Hoi An in Central Vietnam, We drove from Hue yesterday stopping off at Danang along the way to see a sculpture museum - not exactly our cup of tea but we had to show willing even if we were half asleep !! Hoi An is a beautiful old market town - the guide took us on a half day tour and we got to visit the Japanese Bridge, a 400 yr old Merchants House (thats where the Posh and Becks pictures were taken !) and a Silk Factory - we knew that silk came from worms but we'd never actually seen them before - it was a bit bizare !! In the afternoon we got taken out to the countryside for our lantern making lesson (as you can see from the picture) - it wasn't exactly a lesson as we didn't even get a look in as the 2 girls rattled on without us - i think they thought it was better we didn't get involved !! We're bringing the lanterns home and they'll be going to the highest bidder - do i hear $20 ?? We then had the evening to ourselves to wander around the town - after checking out the local market - (the fish smells turning Shelley sick ) we found solice in a really nice bar in the old town and treated ourselves to Profiteroles (not as nice as Iceland obviously !!). After a couple of pints we headed back to the hotel and after a few succesful bartering sessions we were well chuffed with ourselves - but that was before we realised we were lost and it had started raining !!! After asking a few of the locals we managed to stagger back wet and bewildered but all the better for the experience. Really enjoyed Hoi An and it seems that every place we visit becomes our new 'favourite' we'll have to wait and see what Saigon has to offer.
