Rob and shelley on tour
Hiya all
Just finished our trip of the floating village and it was certainly a culture shock!! The smell hit us as soon as we got out of the car and we were immediately thinking that we had made a big mistake. Our fears were true when we boarded the boat. The grime and god knows what was holding the boat to the edge of the shore and people were in the water waist deep pulling boats along, I said to Rob that whatever happens I wa staying put on that boat and even if it sunk I would be there to the bitter end.
As we set off there was a dead piglet stuck in the mud and it looked like it had just got stuck and died there. Still we were hopeful when all of a sudden there was a commotion up ahead and a load of boats, it turned out that the house boats had decided to move home all at the same time and blocked the small channel which which we had to get through. I've never seen anything funnier, there were men eveywhere on top of their boats, scratching their heads and trying to figure out how to work this problem out. I was hysterical laughing and we were sat there rocking in this canoe type boat for over 30 minutes. I was about to get up and start directing boats myself when we appeared to be on the move, I was sooo grateful to be moving so the smell wasnt as bad.
Sometime later we docked at the floating village and just when we thought things couldnt get any worse, we stimbled onto a fish and crocodile farm. Well I couldnt think of anything worse!! The crocs were all squashed up together fighting for space and it all looked so cruel. The guy offered us one and I was like 'yeah I'll just shove him in my suitcase' do one!!
We were straight back on the boat and couldnt wait to get back to shore. We did see some cute kids floating in polystyrene boxes though and it certainly humbled me to see the living conditions of those in this village.
I was so relieved to be back at the hotel and I am of the opinion that the temples complex is great, but the rest of Cambodia is I reckon, a bit underdeveloped for me and woud recommend only for the hardened travellers.
Still we had an experience there, but glad to be on the move to Thailand.
Catch up with you all then
Love
Shelley and Rob
