We went for a boat ride up the East Alligator River, croc spotting. We were'nt disappointed; there's heaps of them! Everywhere in Kakadu there are warnings about swimming in rivers, billabongs and natural pools. The more popular natural pools are checked for crocs at the start of the dry season but there is no guarantee as the dry goes on and the number of cool wet places reduce, that salties haven't made their way into the pool you're considering swimming in. Call us soft but our swims up here have been restricted to the campground swimming pool....
We've also had encounters with camels, emus and a yellow headed whip snake in Katherine. We also had pesky dingoes hanging around the campground at Jabiru, getting into our rubbish and I busted one licking our BBQ plate clean. They always bolt once you approach them. A bloke near us had his shoes pinched one night and a lady claimed that one took her baby but we were sceptical of that....
