Landed in Auckland New Zealand to pouring rain .... If it wasn't for the palm trees swaying in the breeze we'd have thought we had landed in Ireland ... This place is so green & beautiful... Picked up a hire car & away we went ..... Our 1st night was spent just a hours drive from the airport in a small coastal town called Orewa ... We're sure it was a pretty place but the lashing rain curtailed our inspection & we were straight off the following morning to our home for the next 5 days ... Paihia .. North of Auckland ... Looking out to "The Bay Of Islands". From here we took a very long drive ( 4 1/2 hrs) to Cape Reinga ... The furthest northern point in New Zealand ... The drive had at times the most amazing views over the ocean & at the Cape we were able to see the point in the ocean of the Tasman Sea & Pacific ocean meet.... Stunning views!
Our drive back to Paihia was taken down the West Coast & we took our little car onto the "90 mile beach" ... Absolutely deserted except to our delight a little red trailer that was selling coffee .... As we stopped, had coffee & paddled our feet ( the sea was freezing) a couple of Germans had arrived on the beach in a camper van & unfortunately got well & truly stuck ... So the Brits to the rescue ... Managed to sort them out & send them on their way!!!!
