Early morning flight from Auckland but no delay in our transfer to this small beautiful Island Tokoriki via helicopter ...
What a welcome as we arrive on the island we are given necklaces, cocktails & a whole choir of staff singing to us!
How can I begin to describe this place ...beautiful secluded straw thatched villas nestled amongst the palm trees but each having a magnificent view of the ocean & golden beach. Villa number 30 was going to be our resting place for the next 7 nights. The temperature was 31 degrees & the sea water was 27 degrees .... It really was like swimming in a warm bath ... Our saving grace was to be our cool plunge pool!!!
Our time on Tokoriki was perfect .... We took a visit via boat to the next island where most of the staff live ... Shared a local drink Kava with the chiefs of the Island... Not quite sure what this gritty murky water is suppose to provide but it's certainly something we won't be bringing home with us! Went to a very little market & bought a neck breaker & head basher (local fighting tools) they should go well with my Tai Chi sword!!!
Visited the school & were surprised to find that part of the school was for boarders ... Children from neighbouring islands stayed here Monday to Friday!
We took a trip to a reef for a spot of snorkelling .. Dare I say it was better then the "great barrier reef" ? However we did find that we being bitten by sea lice!!! From weaving baskets to fine dining our time in Tokoriki was heaven.
