Roaminallover-Here, There and Everywhere
Woke up with BatuCave legs this morning. My poor legs are really aching from yesterdays climb. I get reminded every time i have to go up and down a kerb- especially as they are so high here. I reckon they thought it would be easier if they ever decide to resurface the road, as they won't have to keep putting new higher kerbs in. On the basis that they don’t seem to bother doing resurfacing very often here the kerbs should be sufficient for a good while yet. Not sure my hips will be around as long though. Keep having to find any dipped bits to save wear and tear on the old joints.
The weather here today is nice again. Obviously still humid as that’s par for the course here but it feels nice and warm without the sun scorching you - so very nice. You do get used to the humidity pretty quickly and not carrying the backpack around makes a difference too.
Managed to get mugged again today- this time by white Egrets- who took off with one of Johns chicken wing bones. Typical con bird trick- one on each side , and while your attention is taken by one the other is stealing the leftovers. Ironically we were on the balcony of the restaurant at the bird park at the time. You’d think that they would be happy enough with the bird seed they get here instead of nicking our bits as well. Still we did manage to shoot a few- Including the Hornbill who decided to venture over to our treetops. Oh just realised those of you with a soft spot for birds could be writing to the RSPB as we speak- the shots were only digital. Anyway in addition to the lunch at the birdpark we had a lovely hike around KL today. Inadvertently managing to do what we wanted to do in reverse. No not walking backwards just visiting the places in reverse order. We didn’t wake til 10.30 – so i guess that was the jet lag catching up and readjusting us to KL body rhythms- so we set off to hike to the bird park for Brunch in the treetops. Those of you familiar with KL will know that it’s not an easy walk from Chinatown as there are various 3 lane highways, railways and rivers in between. Not deterred we set off to find the bridges to traverse this difficult urban jungle terrain. We had a lovely walk past the old railway station – designed somewhere round the early 1900s.i understand by someone called Hubbock......and very pretty too. According to the footprints Malaysia guide the construction was delayed as the roof didn’t meet British railway spec- to be able to support a metre of snow. Seems like a prime example of Bureaucracy gone mad. Anyway leaving that behind we trekked on – having to cross the road at various intervals to find pavements and eventually we ended up at KL Sentral. KL Sentral was way off our intended route being the main terminus for trains to everywhere except the bird park – so handy if we had been going somewhere else but not today. I managed to pacify John with a Mcdonalds thickshake and got him moving again in the right general direction. Then lo and behold we stumbled on Little India where we had been intending to locate this afternoon- so we had an impromptu wander through there – to cut along story short we then ended up getting a train back from KL sentral to where we started and having another go. We obviously managed better second time as we did get there –so if any of you need to know how to get to the bird park from Chinatown we have all the answers and know which car parks, building sites and mosques you need to go past to get there.
Petronas Towers by night this evening – with some tea thrown in somewhere on route (obviously not literally) . Probably just a cheap bowl of street food as we pushed the boat out on brunch today. I tried the Thai chicken Laska yesterday and John had something with wanton in, and fried wanton on the side which had sweet chilli sauce over them (Good job Hayley wasn’t here she’d have been dipping into the sauce. J) Mine was really tasty and John gave good reports on his. So foodies watch this space as we hope to have more reports and pics during the next few weeks. Today John pushed the boat out and had Nasi Goreng – AND managed to ask for the toilet in Malaysian- he’ll be like a native by the end of the three weeks. I’ll get him to tell me new words he has mastered and successfully used and add them to a rider at the end of the daily pages. That way those of you so inclined can pick up useful phrases at the same time. So todays phrase is :
"Di Manakah Tandas" which means “Where is the toilet”
On that useful phrase i will be off – need to find a wi-fi connection next so i can upload these blogs.

Lindsay All sounds very exciting! And of course, I'm very pleased John is mastering the lingo - maybe when he comes back I can employ him as a Malay teacher?!
