We got an early start to the day, heading out at 7:45 am. We were hoping to get past the crazy construction which forced us off the road the previous day and to help us squeeze in a longer driving day. However, sometimes "the best laid plans" are ruined by copious amounts of fog :(. Thus we proceed with great caution down the highway warily glimpsing at what appears to be huge ( and I do literally mean huge) spiderwebs in the trees all along the edges of the highways. James tried to ring my alarm bell by telling me he saw small birds ensnared in the webs, but I am choosing to remain in absolute denial. I am aghast that there would exist such a huge spider to make such a huge web on my continent. It looks like Halloween spider web decorations hung and it is extremely disturbing to my feeling of well being. We did pull over to take a photo for today's blog photo, but then we gunned it only to get away quickly from the Borneo escapees. We have 780 km's left to get to Portland and i doubt we will be able to make it. However it does appear we will be home before lunch time on Sept 1st, if not the evening before as the current "drive like crazy plan" calls for. The corridors of lush greenery bordering the highway have opened into towering rock walls of brownish hues which then give way to valley views and then in turn recede behind the returning corridors of green. With this repeating pattern going on, the kids remain focused on smarties and Monsters Inc, while James and I look around and note non-spidery things of interest. Approaching Scranton we pass another reminder of how dangerous highway driving can be as we witness a semi truck flipped on the side of the highway with firetrucks and paramedics. Very scary.
