We arrived late Friday night and we were immediately hit by a wave of heat as we left the airport, it was actually nice to be somewhere warm again but the humidity saw that this early appreciation of the heat soon dwindled and turned to more of a loathing!! Nothing to report from that bed except a really nice sleep in our air conditioned room!
Next day we headed out early to check out the city and it is really nice following the poverty and grime of most the South American cities we visited it was actually quite refreshing and it is as ridiculously clean as everyone raves about, its illegal to sell chewing gum for heavens sake!! We took the subway which is a vast and impressive network which is also air-conditioned and went to Clarke Quay which turns out is the main bar/drinking area in the city and noticed immediately that it was the last day of the river festival that very night so decided to head back when it got a little livelier! We then walked around the main CBD and headed down towards China tTown where we discovered possibly one of our greatest finds on our trip… " Maxwell Food Court " the place wa unreal around 50 stands selling amazing tasty and amazingly cheap food, awesome!! We then proceeded to walk around some more which was proving very difficult, but the city has got some amzing temples and pretty cool little areas then headed back to the cool hostel! We headed out that evening went back to Maxwell Food Court (from herein known as MFC as it features quite a bit in our Singapore experience) and then go down to the river front to catch a bit of the festival, it was absolutely buzzing down there and looked awesome all lit up at night, unfortunately I wasn't feeling great (I think it was pure disgust at the price of alcohol!!) so we headed back to the hostel relatively early!!
Next day we were kind of on standby as we had spoken to Jacqui (That's Chloe's cousin Mark's wife for all you none Steuer readers) about coming round to see them as they live in Singapore , however they were having Lianne (Chloe's other cousin and Mark's sister) and her new husband John over as part of there honeymoon. So we stayed in for the morning then headed out to have a look around the Little India area and for some lunch…. yup MFC. We decided to go back to the hostel and see if they had been in contact at all which they had literally 5 minutes after we went out for lunch! Chloe called Mark and we arranged to go over in the evening he hadn't told Lianne and John we were coming so a bit of a surprise on there honeymoon…. lucky things ;-) lol. The house was absolutely gorgeous and the Pièce de résistance, it had a pool out back!! I started at it longingly which Mark seemed to notice and offered to lend me a pair of trunks for which I will be eternally greatful!! I spent the rest of the evening playing in the pool with Bradley and James (Mark and Jaquies sons) who had limitless energy and were probably better swimmers than me!! After the boys went to bed we had some drinks and a bit to eat which was great overall it was a really nice evening and great to see everyone!
Next day we picked the worst possible day to visit the local water park which wasn't that great anyway but the fact that it was cloudy and actually a little cold too meant that it really wasn't a fun place to spend the day! Obviously we went to MFC before our visit following withdrawal symptoms brought by not having it for dinner the night before! Even though we did very little that day we crashed out nice and early.
Next day we went to Singapore island resort Sentosa checked out the famous Merlion, partook in a spot of lugging and went on a couple of 3d virtual reality rides which were rubbish!! We decided we had better sample Clarke quay properly that evening so after our final visit to MFC we went to a few bars and exploited the still extortionate happy hours at various bars there! The best of which was The Clinic where you don't sit in a chair but rather a fully functioning wheel chair, it was amazing (perhaps a it's have a few issues with political correctness in the UK but here it was fine!!) I was a pro reinacting the BBC advert doing 360 turns and wheely's, I was also mid-way through a race with a random guy before the bar staffed stormed in and said it wasn't allowed!!! We met 2 irish girls there and went on to Hooters around the corner which had a later happy hour. It turns out it wa one of their birthdays so her mate got the hooters girls around the table to sing happy birthday all very degrading, but funny none-the-less!! We were both pretty tipsy at this point but with our flight to KL the next day decided to head back to the hostel, where we found people outside just about to go to a 24hr food market just around the corner….. of course we went!!
The End!
