We arrive in Surce, the original capital of Bolivia, around 3 o´clock and took a very short walk to our hostel, which is really beautiful and oldy worldy with high ceilings and a fancy dining room. Again we get a another double room so dont have to socailise with the riff raff! We went to explore the city which is a bit of a walk away, its really lovely old buildings and big plazas which are fully of life! We found a great travellers café which do amazing salads so stayed there for ages. I inisited on taking the bus home to experience the local transport system, but also because I couldnt be bothered to trek the massive hill home, we ended up going so far past our stop we were in the middle of nowwhere at the bus terminal, obviosuly Rory had the Gump with me, but we got to see a brillant view of the city at night, also Rory was ill again, I dont know whats wrong with his digestive system!! Finally got home and chilled in the hostel!
I love the street food here in Bolivia and there is such a selection, today I had a potatoe ball filled with mince meat, it was absolutly fantastic!! And they love this tomatoe and chilli salsa here which they put on everything and you stand at these street stands and eat your food and shovel this staff on blows your nuts off (rorys phrase!). Rory however is a little skeptical of this food and never really indulges, which is odd because i´m never ill! After my lovely snack we walk the 15 mins into town, when I remember we have left the money and cards back at the hostel, as im such a good girlfriend I trek the 15 mins uphill back to the hostel, definatly in minus calories today as I did the journey to and from the hostel 4 times! Again we eat in joyride, more salad and caught the bus to the dinasaur park, which i was really excited about! The bus was open top and had dinasaur claws on the front, so I felt like we where in jurassic park the movie! Didnt know what to expect from this place, but it was unbeliavle. On this massive cliff side there are really dinasuar tracks from milliosn of years ago which have been preserved in clay and then the ground was uplift by plate tectonics and so they are vertical so the tracks can be seen really clearly and they have made casts of the prints and put them in the museum
Today we went up to a musuem which overlooks the city, the walk up was exhusting as it was really steep but worth it once at the top, the view was stunning and althoguh its their winter, really hot. We sat outside in the garden on deck chairs overlooking the city in the sun, realyl peaceful and relaxing and made a change from walking around. Then a little indigous band started playing pan pipes and singing, they were brillant and made the day perfect!
We got up super early to check out and then headed to Tarabuco, which has the laregest indigeous market in Bolivia. The market was great full of everything you could ever want, we wandered through the market and few times to get prices of jumpers and things, realised pretty soon that we had to barter with them as they were coming up with ridiucouls high prices. We got Rory a jumper and got 40 bolivianos off the price and was pretty pleased ( as I hate haggling!) then went to get my jumper which I had seen only one of! The girl serving us was only 13 or 14 but man did she drive a hard bargin! She wouldnt budge of BS 100 and outbargined us until we gave in as I really wanted it! Little slave driver!! Left there and caught the 14 hour bus to La Paz which was the worst journey ever! Really uncomfotable and cold! Luckily we had our hats and jumpers from the market, but it wasnt enough! Finally arrive at 7 in the morning and head straight for our hostel!
