Hi All,
C and I are now back into civilisation in big bad LA. So I will try and cover everthing over the last week or so.
30th March - 1 April
We arrived at Denarau Port in Fiji to go to the Malolo Islands. Our resort was called Funky Fish. We had to get of the big catamaran and onto a long speed boat to get to the Island. The resort was owned by a famous NZ rugby player called Brad Johnstone who was resident on the resort. The place was nice and we had a beach front Bure.
Unfortunately, when we got in at night we came across a massive cochroach in the room. I got a spray thing to parralise it and then I picked it up with a bag and through it out. I thought that was the end of it, but another 3 came out from under the bed. They are not nice to pick up but I stayed brave. We decided to be moved as C wasn't feeling great and got a private double in the dorm. Probs a good thing as C as I have said ended up really sick.
The next day I nursed C and chilled at the pool with the other guests, it was a nice resort. In the afternoon I also played some beach volleyball. C lay in the dark the whole day, I felt really sorry for her. At night we had a crab race which was cool. My number 3 reached the final but never turned up for it, we found him in the bar the next day, I called him the Highland dancer!!!!
The next day C made it out to a hammock under the tree so we chilled for the day, I was glad she was up. Some nice American nurses gave me tablets for her to take and they worked.
2nd - 6th April
We headed back into Denarau port to go to the lovely Sheraton. Charlotte was feeling better and now back into luxury it made her feel happy. Resort was amazing and the room was fantastic. We really just chilled here, but I managed to phone my mum and Nana before my Grandad funeral, which was nice.
We sunbathed, played giant chess and watched some fire entertainers. On the day of my Grandad's funeral it was 10 at night in Fiji. I asked my Nana what my Grandad's fav drink was and it was Brandy. I was going to get a straight brandy for a toast to him but I came across the cocktail list and there was a Brandy Alexander cocktail. Made sense his name was Alexander and he liked brandy. At 10 at night I toasted to my Grandad with a fine cocktail to his life and C and I talked about happy memories.
7th - 10th April
We headed back to the port for a boat to the Yasawa Islands to our bure on the Octupus resort. Now this was fab, lots of couples, nice beach. Again for 3 days we sunbathed, played volleyball and when it wasn't nice played some more Chess. Fiji chill time for us. Our Bure was massive and the food in the resort was fantastic. We met some cool people and had another crab race. This time we had to go find our own crab, I picked one up and it nipped me and by the time I got it back it fell out it's little shell home, I found another and let it crawl up my hands. It got to the semi's but failed to get to the final!!!!!!!1
10th April (Afternoon) - 12th April
We got back on the boat to take us to the airport. Our flight to L.A took 11 hrs and was a decent flight. When we arrived in L.A I didn't like the airport one bit. The security people are so petty, I know they need to have it just like we do but we are much more pleasant about it all. So up themselves. It took us 1hr half just to get through security to get our bags. We were nearly at the front of a queue and a guy opened the barrier tape as everyone thought he was told to so we continued along the line, only be told by the cop that we had to go to the back of the queue we were in as that wasn't supposed to happen. So frustrated!!! We then got to the front of the queue again only then for a call from the staff behind to shout all Air Pacific passengers should now go to another queue, I told C to stay and got out to speak to a lady officer who started to listein and then walked away, I then asked her why we needed to move and she said just cause that's where we were to go. I refused and walked away from her back to C, she had a gun but I thought to myself I ain't staying in this airport any longer. Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and even China did not have this problem. Friendly staff with all the same security issues but made the people feel welcome to their country.
When we eventually got to the desk we had a picture of us taken and to index finger prints taken. I ain't happy about that either as I think it is so overboard and now my print is on some database god knows where. Okay my whinge is over.
C and I had a hire car and when we got to the place we ended up going for an upgrade to a midsize car, it was huge with all these buttons, I pressed the emergency call button by mistake!!! Nice though and makes you feel big and important.
Driving on the other side of the road has turned out to be okay, we managed to get to our travel lodge in Hollywood fine and it is really nice, on the same day we went shopping in a mall to find a camera as our broke. No luck!!!!
The next morning we ventured up the hills to the Hollywood sign, It's really cool from the observatory, we didn't have a camera so headed into Hollywood Blvd. This place was amazing all the stars name's along the pavements, big buildings, people dressed up. It was all happening. We got directed to a camera shop and have got a good Cannon camera for half the price what you would pay back home. We left our camera to charge in the motel and headed for an outlet shopping mall.
In the afternoon we drove around Beverly Hills and Bel Air looking at where the stars lived, We went passed Paris Hilton, Beckhams, Regans, Eddie Murphy, Tom jones etc etc. You cant' see many but It's good to try and get a sneaky look.
At night we went back into Hollywood and the walk of fame. We got some takeaway salads and mexican's before going home. Our days have been out at 8 and back at 11, were not getting much sleep.
Saturday we went back up to the Hollywood sign to get some pics, before heading to Venice beach. This place is like what you see on the T.V and you see some weird things. We sat under a palm tree eating lunch watching the guys do their stuff on the beach. We then headed back into Hollywood and went into the Wax museum of the stars and the Guinness book of records, all cool!!!
We ate at a sushi place but with a difference, it was called Shuba Shuba and not sushi. You cooked your own food in front of you at a bar in seconds. Japanese for swish swish and thats exactly what you do with your food. We didn't get home until 10:30 again.
Today, Sunday we went to see L.A Galaxy soccer team play Toronto. I wanted to go to see David Beckham play. The game was good, but they got beat 3-2 in the last minutes. I do feel though that this game is nowhere near the standard of the Premiership or Spanish football. It may help American soccer but it will not help his International career. He is still good but when you ain't playing at the highest level against the best of the best then I don't think you can play for England. He never scored but saw some of his dazzle and C took some good photo's. In the afternoon we walked along Rodeo drive and passed the Hotel in Pretty Women. We just got back into Hollywood and saw cops arrest some guys and handcuff them, really cool!!!!
We seemed to have covered a lot of ground the last few days as we have also driven along Santa Monica Blvd, Sunset Blvd, Wilshire Blvd (Pretty women hotel) and Melrose Avne. We haven't saw any stars yet but it's hard to tell as some people today had bodyguards as they were shopping in Rodeo but we didn't know who she was!!!!!
Tonight we head to Hard rock cafe for a meal!!! Will blog soon.
Hope everyone is doing well
Iain and Charlotte
