Hello Folks, This may well be our last postcard, boo hoo!!! We're now half way through our tour of Rajasthan. We got a train upto Amritsar to see the Golden Temple which was incredible. Met a nice young chap who showed us round. He'd met Michael Palin when he was shooting his Himalaya programme. We felt like filmstars as there are very few "White-faced" people around the temple, we saw about 4 more the day we were there!! People just surrounded us to listen to us talk English (must be our posh Brummie accents!!) we got lots of hugs and blessings, they were very happy that we wanted to learn about their religion. We headed back to smellie-Delhi, then met up with our driver Mr Singh. We've hired a car for 9 days, to cut out the 12-24 hour bus journeys. There are no road rules in India, cows on the motorways, bikes, scooters, dogs etc on the wrong side of the road!! Its quite an experience, but we're safely strapped into the back seats. Mr Singh is a very relaxed driver by Indian standards, at least the cars are so knackered they don't go very fast. We've been to Jaipur and Jodhpur, which are both hectic, dusty, smelly towns. But both have beautiful forts, especially Jodhpur (and its blue city). Now in Udaipur which seems a lot more relaxed. There are stunning palaces in the middle of a lake, which has just been filled by 4 continuous days of rain, after a 4 year drought. Tony Blair was here a week ago, which all the locals want to tell us. Its also where parts of Octop**** were filmed, so its shown EVERY night in the local bars. Thats all for now, may have time to sneak in one more in Mumbai. We may become Bollywood stars!! Love Stew & Marie
