Rie & Stew Are Out Of The Office
Well folks this IS the last postcard, on day 226 of our incredible adventure.
We really enjoyed our few days in Udaipur, it was a relatively relaxed place with some beautiful scenery. From there we headed to Pushkar, a small oasis town in the middle of nowhere. Its got a holy lake and lots of weird Windians (White people trying to be Indian) looking for spiritual salvation. We headed off the next morning for Agra, it was an 8 hour drive over some of the worst roads in the world. Its a miracle our little car stayed in one piece.
We arrived in Agra and spotted a Pizza hut, so we had a non-curry based meal, which was a welcome relief. Agra is a bit of a dump (wouldn't recommend more than a day) but apparantly theres quite a nice building around somewhere!
We got up early the next morning and by 6:30am we were stood looking at the Taj Mahal baby! It is a cliche but it really is even more unbelievably beautiful than any photo can show. Its set in a lovely, peaceful walled garden, which keeps out the noise and chaos of Agra. We sat and admired the view for a few hours before the crowds arrived about 9:00am. Although its very funny watching people having their photos taken, some lovely poses!! It was the perfect way to finish our trip (well almost finish). No more sightseeing will seem worth it now.
We bummed around for a few hours until our sleeper train arrived at 7:15pm bound for Mumbai. Its a 16 hours trip, but the bunks were pretty comfy and we managed to get a reasonable nights sleep, despite having a snorer who could rival Steve or Gordon.
Mumbai is a fairly modern city in Indian terms, with no cows or donkeys roaming the streets. It still has its share of hawkers and beggers, but we're steeled to all that now. Just waiting around in bars and coffee houses and a bit of last minute shopping before our flight home on Friday. Hopefully anyway, the indian aiport staff are threatening a strike on Thursday, so fingers crossed the delays won't keep us away from a nice pint of English ale too long.
We'd like to give a BIG BIG THANK YOU to everyone who's kept in touch via the message board or e-mail. It helped us get through some s***ty days, knowing you hadn't forgotten about us back home.
SEE YOU VERY SOON..
LOVE
