Rie & Stew Are Out Of The Office
Julley from India,
We left Bangkok for India, via Hong Kong airport, where we watched the bluenoses scrape a win against the Baggies. Then onto Delhi, we arrived at 2am so had to sleep in arrivals until we could find a hotel in daylight. We got a nice but expensive place near the domestic airport, ready for the next mornings flight to Leh. We had satelite tv in our room and saw the final day of the Ashes test, come on Gilo!!!!
We set our alarm for 2.30am but got woken buy the boss at 4.00am just in time to get a taxi to the airport. It was a spectacular flight through the Himalayas into Leh airport, but we made it safe and sound.
We're at about 5,000 metres so everything is hard work, even finding a place that sells beer! We met up with Dave & Rhian who we originally met in Singapore, so its good to have company as the nights are quiet and cold. We've spent a few days chilling out getting acclimatised and fighting Delhi belly.
On 1st Sept a two week festival started including traditional dance, theatre, polo matches etc which is really interesting and amusing. The locals don't worry about barriers etc, if they want to see a show they crowd surge until they can see!!
We found out from some of the locals that the Dhali Larma was in town doing a few gigs, so this once in a lifetime experience couldn't be missed.
We got up at 5.30am got a taxi out to the ground. We were very privaliged to be right at the front and got a great view. His teachings were translated into english too. There were a few prats in the tourist enclosure who thought they knew all things Buddist but where just prats in crap clothes!! Anyway, amazing is such an understatement to describe this latest experience, lets hope its not the last before we see you lot again!!
Off to find a beer,
Love,
