Christmas in Adelaide started with catching up with everyone as Mum had just arrived but we still had to get Dora's brakes fixed as they really started to rub coming down the hill into Adelaide. It was important that they got repaired before xmas because we needed two cars to drive everyone around to all the intended places of visit over the coming days and we managed to get them done on xmas eve.
The weather was dull and wet right up until xmas day so we felt a little more at home!! Everyone also managed to get all their xmas shopping done too in the run up as full use of babysitters was taken advantage of. We hadn't bought anyone anything until 23rd Dec - not like us (or Sam, at least!!).
Toby has grown lots since we left and, i'm sure he (or his parents) won't mind me saying that he's a little porker now!! His first words were definitely "Uncle Ricky" no doubt about it, ha ha.
Sam and I have decided not to buy each other presents but we don't need them because we've got Ellie to spoil and enjoy the christmas spirit. Its all about her this year!
Christmas morning came and Ellie didn't think Santa had been because she didn't notice her stocking but soon got excited when it was pointed out to her. Sam got her wish and we all had a BBQ down by the beach for dinner and it was delicious. The weather was superb and we even went for a swim in the sea afterwards. It seems that all Aussie's venture out on xmas day as the roads were the busiest in Adelaide that i'd ever seen. Many shops and petrol stations were open and we couldn't believe how many people were about. I guess it is their summer holiday though in contrast to our christmas back home when it's too cold and wet to go out!
We spent lots of time over the christmas period with Abby's family, eating plenty of food and enjoying our family time together. The weather satisfied everyone with temperatures reaching 40 degrees by new year and we made sure Mum saw plenty of sights including Hahndorf, Adelaide City Centre & market, Haighs Chocolate Factory, Mount Lofty for an excellent sunset and, of course, our 3 day trip to Kangaroo Island.
Before we all left Adelaide, Ryan & Abby had arranged to baptise Toby and make Sam & I godparents. This was a lovely gesture and something we accepted whole-heartedly. The baptism service was very good and Toby was exceptionally well behaved (as always).
Dad treated the four of us to a meal of our own choosing so we left Mum as babysitter and we went down to Glenelg and up the revolving tower to enjoy a great meal along with overlooking the city. We decided that it was going to be a three course occasion so Ryan & I shared a platter of oysters for starters which were delicious. The mains were also superb and we proceeded to order dessert. After about 45 mins waiting for our dessert we enquired as to where they were and weren't treated very well. The waiters kept ignoring us so we decided to cancel. When we suggest this to them they said "but we were going to offer you free coffee to finish". We felt insulted so we recieved the bill, underpaid by $20 and walked out. It was a sad end to a wonderful christmas present from Dad but we had a very good evening all the same.
Merry christmas and a happy new year!!
