Ending Malaysia in Kuala lumpur because it was the end of ramadam so most of the east coast was closed for holiday and no boats were running to the islands we decided we didnt want to miss the full moon party in Thailand so we flew up to phuket for cheaper times and even more food!
When we arrived in Phuket we met a big scando (norway) guy called paul who shared a taxi with us into phuket town where we were staying. When we got there it was a huge crowded festival all the way down the street we stopped at. Me and rick instantly got excited seeing all this new food to try and all the cheap prices so we checked into our room and headed out with paul only to find out that it was a VENGETARIAN FESTIVAL, we were devastated haha naa only kidding, it was awesome, the whole street was covered in bright lights and hundreds of food stalls and plenty of festive celebrations. The whole festival went on for about 4 or 5 days in total so we got to see the finale whch consisted of hundreds of thai men and women parading through the streets of phuket with fireworks and firecrackers, throwing them on the street and dancing onto and around them. Some of them also had a long silver bar impailed through one side of their cheek, we never found out why but we presumed it would be some sort of sacrafice to their buddist god. It looked pretty painful but we didnt say anything lol So we went out for a few beers with paul before he left fro Phi Phi the bext day and watched a pretty cool thai jazz band in a small bar. So yes of course me and rick said we wished i was a meat festival insted of vegetarian but we ended up finding some dodgy meat stall round the corner from the vegetarians selling what we thought and what loked like chicken so we stuffed our faces with kebabs and chicken skewers etc, hope no one saw us! haha rick even left a little bit on a stick and walked down the road asking all the vegetarian stalls to put the remains in their bin! it was funny at the time...
The next day we decied to venture out to one of phukets most famous beaches, Patong Beach. This place is one of the beaches the Tsunami hit the hardest in 2003, they had done a brilliant job in rebuilding it and it looked brand new, like a mini cancun in mexico. We went out partying at the beach strip that night and encountered endless numbers of bars and drinks pretty cheap with plenty of fun people to talk to. It was a bit annoying towards the end of the night though because each bar employs a certain amount of gyrating thai women to sit outside the bar in a group to try and drag you in to buy drinks, they even resort to comming and grabbing your balls, thinking this would get us in there lol it was one insane place of lights and drunken ness. The best part about the night was getting a small yellow tuk tuk taxi on the way home, it was awesome going up over the hills back to the town, take a lok at the photos.
On our last day in phuket we decided to go visit about 5 or 6 buddist temples which were absaloutly beautiful. The people really had put so much time and effort into creating these places. We went inside a couple of them and the detail in some of the statues and worship tables was unreal, you'd have to see it for real to believe it
So thats about it for phuket, we nowget the ferry across to one of the most beautiful islands in the world "ko phi phi" to visit the special place where "the beach" was filmed.
Speak to you all soon,
Adam x
