Hey everyone, adam here :)
ok so im not going to write a huge blog for San Cristobal because we were only there for like 2 or 3 days.
So we left Escondido eager to catch up with the rest of the swayze train again and see some real mexican culture...
So me, rick and mark arrived in the morning after taking the overnight bus to the backpackers hostel to see evan helen and liz whowere glad to see us, suzanne (norway) was also there for our first day aswell.
So basically for our first day we walked around and ate at nearly every street stall possible (with great encouragement from evan) and we bought a few new things and soaked up the small mexican town which may i add was very hot during the day and ABSALOUTLY FREEZING at night! It was really strange but its because we were so high up in the mountains. First time id woken up cold in the middle of the night on this trip thats for sure!
So the next day our group of 6 people hatched the great idea of hiring a 5 person car and driving up into the mountains to visit a small mayan village in the middle of nowhere. This was quite possibley my most favorite part of mexico so far...
So we drove (very unconfortabley) into the mountains for about an hour, we parked up, and with severe cramp got out of the car to discover all the local mexicans staring at us like they had never ever seen a white person before. It was crazy! There was a mother and her two young daughters washing their hair and clothes in the river by where we parked which made us realise how far away from home we really were!
We walked casually through the town with all eyes and ears on us to find that at one end of the town (about a 5 min walk from one side to the other) that we had stumbled upon one of their special celebration days in the town center. They seemed to be performing and re-inacting a war of some time which was amazing to watch. Everyone was suprisingly friendly and seemed to love the fact we had come to visit!
After there we drove about a half hour out of the mountains to one of the famous underground caves in the area which was also pretty awesome, i would have taken photos but it was too dark in there unfortunatly.
Our hostel was pretty cool, we met some ace people and we succesfully drank about 5 or 5 or 6 bottles of vodka sat round the campfire in the hostel between 4 of us haha (we also toasted marshmellows which was pretty awesome)
So yeah that was pretty much San Cristobal... we didnt know where we were going next but someone mentioned to us that Palenque (the jungle) further north was awesome, so we decided to go there with the swayze train which will be in the next blog!!
We've also begun to realise that although we are taking photos for you guys, we really cant capture exactly what we see in a single photo, its just unbelievable how different everything seems in real life.
right im off now! so we'l right another blog real soon because we're far behind with these blogs!!!
love and miss you all,
Adam x x x x x
