Richie's Travels!
The roads,- no lanes to speak of, no rules, no giving way. It's just awash with cars, lorries, rickshaws, tuk tuks, scooters, cows, dogs and people pissing freely in the street - my kinda town! The horn is the gadget of choice for any driver here, beeb to indicate, overtake, warn people off, state your intentions and even flash your lights......... the horn does it all, they all sound the same but I now know what they're saying now!
We've seen so much in so little time;- India Gate, Connaught Place, The Presidential Home, Red Fort, The Lotus Temple, some other temple (loved this one, felt truly chilled there) and Humayan's Tomb. This was the basis for the Taj Mahal (maybe tomorrow?), 100 years older but breathtaking to say the least and the best is yet to come.
We were going to Jaipur on Sat to stay overnight, Rich (our mate in Delhi) said there was plenty to see so we all had our bags packed and were ready to go. Woke about 6am Sat morning and lost the contents of my stomach double quick time, the loo paper was disappearing faster than was at all possible and I couldn't understand why!! It worked out me and Ross were sleeping and s***ting in shifts and new nothing about each others illness for 12 hours, so Jaipur went out of the window (damnit, can't do it all tho!), and had to settle with a trip to the Taj Mahal instead!! The bloody place was closed when we got there, the New Zealand Premier had it all to herself, and our driver had *#$&ed off (thinking we'd be gone hours) leaving us to fight off postcard/snowscene? and whip sellers! The whip was too big, good price but couldn't get it in my bag! What a place! The detail, the workmanship, the spiritual ideas behind it's design are mindblowing, I'll get the pics on the net soon!
Our plans to get to Bombay (Mumbai) for a couple of days and then sailing onto Goa is now off due to an 8 day delay on the trains! Because of religious holidays they're fully booked for over a week and the airfares are just to pricey with trip still in it's infancy. Have to find a job and start saving when I get home...........
"NEWSFLASH"
We have a "New Plan!" We made our way to New Delhi Railway Station today and booked ourselves tickets for Jaipur! This was alot of fun involving queuing to obtain the train time and train number, then filling out an order form for the ticket, only to join another queue to actually pay and receive your ticket! Not sure where we'll end up tomorrow but we'll keep you posted!!
Oh and by the way the weather's blooming marvelous here!
