Whilst in America I also did a fair bit of travelling when ever possible. My first bit of travelling myself and Mark went to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. We flew in from New York and stayed at the Golden Nugget Hotel which was not on the strip but in the down town area of the city. Las Vegas really is all it is cracked up to be. The city really is just a playground for adults. Whilst there we did not really gamble much because I am not much of a gambler and Mark was only 20 at the time. We spent our time exploring all the hotels and eating a lot of food at the buffet dinners. It is no wonder that the Americans are some of the most obese people in the world food and large quantities of it are available everywhere. We typically would have a light lunch and then have a buffet for dinner of which there was everything you would ever want, you could eat very healthy if you wished as there was salad and fruit or you could go the other way and not be healthy. The hotels were quite unique in that everyone had a different theme. I found the most interesting hotels were Ceases palace, the Bellagio, the Venetian and the Sphinx. Some hotels even had rollercoaster's in them, what a crazy place! As well as taking in all the weird and wonderful sites of Las Vegas we also took a trip to the grand canyon which is one of the best things I have ever done in my life, no wonder they call it a natural wonder of the world. We flew from Las Vegas to the grand canyon flying over hoover dam and then touching down on the top of the canyon. Once we had touched down we took a helicopter down to the base of the canyon which was pretty amazing it was the first time I had been in a helicopter. Once down in the canyon we took a boat along the river which provided us with an amazing view of the canyon from the base and what was strange was the water was really cold and the air temperature was around 35. Once we did our boat ride we headed back into the helicopter up to a view point over looking the canyon which was amazing, the views were something special and well worth the trip.
