A bit closer to home

Often people travel far and wide to see and experience new things - for curiosity sake, to satisfy wanderlust, adventure, or just a change of scenery. Whatever the reason, at times you forget the nice places close to home which you have become familiar with.

Once a visitor or visitors arrive, you tend to return to the places you classify as special but
don’t go there all that often anymore. For example, many people who entertain visitors coming from outside Brisbane sooner or later take them to Mount Cooth-tha to show the city from the 280 meter high lookout and enjoy a coffee at the Lookout café while there.

When Gert arrived we did the same in between our longer and further away journeys. As time ran out sooner than we expected many of these other locations we had to leave for next time - all the more reason for Gert to come back!

I would like to share with you these nice places in this beautiful part of the world I am so lucky to live in, by means of a series of photographs taken over the years, and more recently during November, with the distances from my home noted to give you an idea.

At the end of November it was time for Gert to pack his bags and head home again. After a few farewell dinners and lunches, we took him to the Brisbane airport where he caught his plane to Melbourne in order to connect with his Etihad flight back to Amsterdam.

His departure also signals the end of this blog. Another short blog will follow in March while
I am participating in the 2016 Australian BMW Safari which starts from the Gold Coast on March 13 and finishes March 18 somewhere in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney.
