"He died for his country" is a phrase often heard or spoken, and I suppose if a soldier dies while fighting on his or hers own soil, it would have a literal meaning.

At Omaha beach where we relaxed and enjoyed a cup of coffee a few days ago there is a large American cemetery covering 172 acres (70 ha) containing 9387 American soldiers who died to ensure the freedom of others including in the first place my parents and two eldest brothers and of course millions of others. This fact went through my mind many times during the last few days. The American Cemetery was the same as featured in the movie “Saving Private Ryan” . It is hard to describe the feeling when you walk among the many graves, so I leave it to the pictures.
