On another Bus in the afternoon to Nazca. Awesome scenery coming into the Nazca desert. Went straight to the airport and go in a tiny 6 seater plane to look at the Nazca lines. These have been dated back to 300 BC. They are pretty incredible. I loved the tree and the monkey. Great experience expect for the constant turning side to side to give everyone good views. Out for a bloody brilliant steak for dinner before stopping at a street stall to have a piece of fruit the local call the tuna (prickly pear). Kinda flavourless with a funny texture, not high up on my recommendation list.
Up early the next day and off on the next adventure! Walked straight out the hotel door and into a sand buggie. It's was just Nadine, Simon and me. First visited the Cantalloc aqueducts, a Nazca burial site , the Cahuachi archeological site and then finally the big sand dunes. Here we went up and down all over the place. Some of the dunes we went down were so freaken steep.
We stopped at two different places to sand board down. It was pretty cool. The dines weren't massive but we still managed to gather some decent speed. Of course with my coordination I had some good wipe outs. I got pretty smash and ate/covered myself in sand. Headed back after going over a few more dunes. On the way we pulled over so I could drive. SO Awesome. You could go as fast a you wanted. It was great, makes me want a open topped car when I'm older! I don't think the guy was as excited about my driving as I was. He seemed to me holding on pretty tight!
Headed back for showers and to pack before we got on an overnight is bus for 11 hours to Arequipa. The bus company we have been using is called Cruz Del Sur. It's meant to be the safest company. But we still stopped a couple of times in random dodgy locations. I would hate to travel on any other companies bus if this is the best.
