Started the day with a walking tour of Arequipa. It's is a beautiful city, much cleaner and much less noise than the other places. The taxis and cars don't toot every 2 seconds which is wonderful. The city is called the white city as the colonial area is made from the local volcanic rock (sillar) very pretty.
In the main square there is a protest about oil in the area. We have been told that sometimes the roads on the way to cusco will get blocked off and and tourist buses can be attacked. So depending on what happens in the next couple of days, we may have to fly.
Visited the wool factory and got to feed the llamas and alpacas. The headed to the food markets. Here we tried papa rellena ( stuffed potatoes ),
Empanada de Carne (Pork mince Pie) and Mana (popcorn covered in sugar). The market had some pretty gross stuff. There were skinned cows heads, pennies, testicles, frogs, and much much more. Had a great afternoon nap before walking around town to buy a cute little painting. Back at our hostel, Los Andes bed and breakfast, Patricia brought back wontons and the ingredients to make lime and passion fruit pisco sours. So much better than the last ones we had.
The recipes is:
Ice cubes crushed
Brown sugar or sugar syrup 2 tablespoons per glass
A shot of pisco
Half shot of lime juice/3 shots of passion fruit (less ice cubes for passionfruit)
Egg white (one egg is enough for 3/4 glasses - in blender or shaker)
Topping is bitters or powdered cinnamon
Love these drinks, definitely making them at home!
