I signed up for the 10 day trek to Annurpurna Base Camp in the Himalayas and I wasn't entirely sure whether how it turn out, although I'd heard good things.
I'd got my guide sorted out in Kathmandu who seemed a decent bloke which was goodbecause we were going to be in each others pockets for the next few days. Anyway we got the 8 hour bus from KTM to Pokara, which is a really nice town (much calmer than the hustle and bustle of KTM!). It was just into peak season so the trail itself was quite busy. This made the trek sort of interesting because after day 3 it became a daily race for accomodation due to the shortage of tea houses. I'd seen one guy put up in a cupboard that he shared with the Nepalese family owners! And it's especially difficult travelling on your own, as they don't do many single rooms.
Anyway I ended up hooking up with 3 others (Dan, Kate and Ross), and between us, our guides and their porter we were able to take turns in setting off early to get a bed sorted, but it was always a touch and go situation whether we were going to be in the cupboard.
The treak itself was good and there was lot of great scenery, there's also loads of time to think when you're walking 7 hours a day, so I did a bit of that!! But I think it's an experience you only need to do once, however I was surprised how many people do trek after trek. Not my cup of tea, and all of us were in good spirits when the finishing line was in sight. You don't appreciate a hot shower until you haven't had one for a week!
Also decided to get my hair chopped off in Pokara in advance of India. I think it looks pretty good, my Mum however disagrees!
