20/1/10 - day 42.
got up very late, at 10am. went for a walk about to see what the place was like, stopping for breakfast of beef, chicken and rice along the way. went to walk along the beach as well but it wasnt very nice so i went to where the guide book said there was tourist info - it was closed down. went back to the hostel and decided to get some laundry done, the fella working there didnt know where there was a laundrette so again i used the lonely planet book which had locations of 2 in it. the first one had a sign on saying back in 10 mins. i waited 20, nobody returned so i went to find the other one. this one was closed down. was kinda frustrating and i was beginning to question my decision to hang around for the sake of an arsenal game.
i didnt think the city was even that nice to walk around. for the 1st time in ages i was seeing burger king, pizza hut and dunkin donuts. my faith in my decision to stay was later restored when the football came on that afternoon. a 4-2 win, from 2-0 down, to put us top. TOTALLY worth it. after this, i watched some aussie open tennis (an epic 5 setter between del potro and blake) and then went out for dinner at the school canteen i went to the previous night.
on the way back, was walking past the usual homeless people begging, asking for money, fags, etc. one gaunt looking old dude was asking for handouts from a bakery that was near closing. i was about to walk past, but instead i bought him a donut! (quite random, but what can i say? i was in a good mood after the football!). he seemed pretty happy! i did however make sure he didnt see which hotel i was going back to incase he thought i was some overly generous nutter, or worse, that he was some homeless person that also happened to be a mentalist. ive SO many of these people every day and always ignore so i thought id mix it up a little bit.
went to bed around 9pm, eager for an early start to get out of la ceiba.
