11/2/10 - day 64.
up at half 8 after a saggy but comfy nights sleep and got the boat to rio dulce village where i grabbed some fried chicken from a street vender and got on a 9am bus going way up north in guatemala to Flores. it was only 3 and a half hours long but felt a lot longer, with me finding this journey particularly boring for some reason. it was the 2nd day in a row the weather had been bad, raining on and off all morning.
in an effort to save a bit of money, when the bus got to nearby santa elena, i decided to walk the half a km to flores rather than take a taxi. as it was, i got a touch lost trying to find the hostel i wanted and had to take one anyway. the intention was there though! and even the driver didnt know where it was! was an awesome place and i could see why it had been recommended to me by so many people id met.
was quite funny as i was greeted at the door by a bit of a fuddy-duddy of old english man. was well wierd to hear somebody say "be with you in a moment", it confused me probably more than it should have! i showered in luke warm water and then got some food at their vegetarian-only restaurant (a veggie burrito and salad) and then literally didnt move except to go to the bar to get beer and then later to get dinner, such was the qulaity of the company at the hostel! there were 3 other girls staying there all from south west england (bristol, tiverton and gloucester). quite strange. various others were from canada, usa, australia, germany and even a belizean dude was staying there.
went to bed about 10pm. had a really early start (even for me) in the morning to go and visit the ancient mayan ruins up in Tikal.
