♫ Two drifters, off to see the world ♫
Hello All! Sorry it;s been so long for some of you, it's just been so hard to get to a internet cafe or phone! So we landed in Delhi after such a long flight and wait at Dubai so excited. I went to the toliets in dubai airport just before immigration, totally forgetting it was squat toliets i decided to give it a miss and this ladie in there had given me toliet roll on the way in and then some when i came out to dry my hands (after pretending to go!), I said thanks and went to walk out but then got stopped - "munee munee" i was like oh great we havent changed any yet. so i gave her 50p and she was like nooooo 1 pound! but thats all i had so i had to run! After we got out the airport we were swamped with people even though we bought a pre paid taxi, and this guy grabbed my bag off me and put it into the taxi for me, and the second he did that i knew he was going to ask for money which he did, but i just hid inside the taxi!! The taxi ride there was awful! The traffic here is so bad, no rules, i swear down I thought i was going to die, wither from a herific crash or from a heart attack. everyone pushes there way though, no indicators or anything. Now you just think nothing of it as weve been in rickshaws so much. All of Dehli is like that, you get hasseled walking down the street every auto rickshaw that passes stops and tried to rip you off! we thought we were getting them at good prices until just a few days ago! And while in the auto rickshaws people in the middle of the roads came up and started hitting richard on the leg with what was a stump for a hand asking for money and little kids who look so innocently at you ask for money! You do get hardened to it though as now we just say no in a tone you dont want to mess with and push them if needs be! As you are driving along in a rickshaw you see people just lying on the streets sleeping, ar on the cycle rickshaws sleeping, everybody seems to be just hanging about! After being bed ridded in the hotel in dehli for 2 whole days after eating our first curry, we decided we needed to leave dehli asap. We got a boy from the hotel to get train tickets to Agra (where the taj mahal is) it took a good few hours and as it was early morning, all the indians from the shanti towns that are next to the stations all had morning poos on the track side! (not a pretty sight, believe me!) We reached agra and got a rickshaw to the hotel! we decided as we were ill we would opt for a nice hotel with A/C and it even had a fridge! We had a few hours sleep and then decided to have a lok around! Agra was far far better we were thinking if we had made the right choice about coming to india but after agra we knew it wasnt so bad! We went to the fort which was impressive had a look around and then you come to this balcony and windows with a spectacular view of the taj, you couldnt look away it was so beautiful. We wanted to go there straight away but we knew it would be much better at sunset so we went back to the hotel and relaxed for a bit and then got the same cycle rickshaw driver to take us there. It was so busy but still didnt take away the beauty of it all. the following day we spent at fatehpur sikri which is a ghost city.We spent 3 days in Jaipur (pink city) which is 5 hours west in Rajhastan, where we hired a autorickshaw for a day and a half and saw all the sites and forts! Theres a fort anywhere you go in India it seems, and i think we'l be seeing a good amount of them haha. Now we are in Jodpur, which is a blue city, alot of the buildings in the old town were painted blue to reflect the sky.? theres a massive fort towering above the town we are goint to see that tomorrow, and in our bible (lonely planet) it says theres a really romantic restaurant up there that, and it's ment to be the best and it;s advisable to book so we are hoping to eat there. I think thats caught you up on everything for now! hopefully we can update you more often!
Take care all xxxx
