Hello all, we are now in Colva, I think about 50 km further south than Anjuna. Not too much to report this week, mainly because we've been lazy b*****s lying around on the beach! Well as Katie said last week, we weren't exactly too happy with our accomodation in Anjuna, we eventually got moved into a nice room with a balcony and a hammock, which was great for a couple of days, until one evening, as I relaxed, reading in the hammock as it swayed gently in the sea breeze...it snapped! Could only happen to me. And of course our next door neighbours saw it all, how embarassing... Luckily for me though I was sensible, I thought the rope looked a bit frayed so I put a big bean bag under it - no lasting injuries! Oh and the rat (named him Roland, of course) that ran up and down the roof of our 2nd room (if you're keeping up!), turned out to live in our 'nice' new room! So needless to say we were very glad to be moving on.
We took a taxi to Colva which took about an hour and a half. Amazingly when we arrived the taxi driver didn't demand more money for one or other invented reasons, for the first time ever! Although we almost always manage to avoid paying, it's so annoying, especially when you agree on a price beforehand and say it 5 times to make sure! So we're at a place called Vailankani Cottages, which are, naturally, um, well an apartment block...hmm. But it's a nice big clean room with hot water and a TV!! Not used to such luxuries! Plus it's half the price of Ratville in Anjuna.
The beach here is really nice, and there's a lot of fishing going on as well. We watched a boat yesterday which was about 30ft off shore hauling in a big load of fish. The food in Goa is great, especially the sea food, which I was never into before, but I've eaten loads recently.. Even Katie's had a fish curry! And the food's so cheap, fish curry is about 70p, we had steak and chips for 1 pound the other day and it was great! We have found this beach shack which we've been to every day, there are two waiters there who think they're the Chuckle Brothers, always trying to outdo each other with jokes which either aren't funny or (more often) we just don't understand what they say. But we're English, so we laugh politely. But it's a really nice place, and they always give us free wine or beer for some reason.
On the first day we went to this shack, Katie wanted to get out of the sun so she went and sat inside while I sunbathed. But the heat must have gone to her head because apparently she aged 50 years and thought she was on a SAGA holiday! With no exaggeration she stayed there for over 2 hours talking to this group of golden oldies! Turned out that most of them are ex-pats and they seem nice enough. Katie's excuse was "I just like talking to old people!". Bless.
Well I think thats about all we've been up to, we are planning to go to Palolem next week, it's known as paradise beach and is apparently one of the most beautiful in the world. Skeggy it's not. (Sorry Sandy!) So until then take care.
