Back in civalisation, after a pretty awesome three day trek in the North Thailand jungles, with some even more awesome people. A bumpy truck ride North of Chiang Mai (there seems to be a theme to the road journeys here) took us to the elephant camp, where we had a short trek on an elephant....God bless cars, elephants are not the most comfy, speedy or airconditioned of transport.
A four hour uphill trek from there, via a waterfall, took us to the Lahu village and our first nights accomodation. A simple bamboo hut on stilts, complete with camp fire, tasty home cooked curry and local families, including a small child one of our group affectionately named "snot face". Its cold in the mountains - reminded me of the Enlgish winter I was pining for (I've had my fill of it for another month or so) , but worth it for the sunset/sunrise and the friends we made, 4 of whom we are travelling to the Laos border with tomorrow.
Day 2, a steady jungle trek to a beautiful waterfall (and a stop for a swim and a wash).....in an ICE cold, power shower. More trekking and more water falls to camp number 2. Another night of food, fire and beer, card games and chit chat, roosters and restless sleeps.
Day 3, a lazy morning our guide (Yo) cooked again, a tasty breakfast and we set of on a short walk to the river for some white water rafting, followed by a bamboo rafting experience (or bamboo submarine - we had a few too many people on it to float properly). Then back to civalisation, to a hot shower, and a proper matress (...heaven) an early night taking us upto today. Will miss the festivities, that sound like they have already begun in the UK - seriously people, some of you have Christmas trees up already????? (but its nearly time for the Dairy Milk advent calendar, if you all want to buy an extra one for me, then you have an excuse for an extra chocloate each morning :)
We had an amazing few days, made better by the people we trekked with, tomorrows another day, another country and more crazy adventures. Miss you all, love you lots.
